thanks TRF - you helped on my sub
Dear forum members :
I wanted to write my appreciation for your collective threads on submariners of all models.... Reading them taught me a lot - which brought me to an informed decision for a relative beginner - after missing about 60yrs of submariner evolution. I'm not well off enough to buy blind or just cos of a whim - so all the teachings i found on your forum helped channel my acquisition, and made it more of a journey, which i enjoyed. So thanks again - I'm now the proud owner of a pre-loved sub date - 116610LN - which was born only a few months prior to me adopting it, so that saved me £1000 and i still have over a year of rolex guarantee ;-) i got it from a Rolex specialist on the S.coast of the UK - who came recommended by a friend - not sure if I'm allowed to advertise here as just joined today. I used a whole bunch of your eclectic wisdoms to govern the authenticity (which admittedly was sheer paranoia on my behalf anyway - as the dealer is well known) - and even cross checked the "original" AD of purchase with - the Rolex.com website - then rang the AD as stated on the original guarantee dated card and confirmed that they did in fact sell such a serial number on such a day.... everything seemed to check out like perfect - woo hoo... so now i couldn't be happier. Ive worn it every day since i got it - gym, swim, work, sleeping and washing - it seemed to need a day or two to settle down although it stayed with Chronometer parameters well enough - but over the last few days its barely gained a second. It looks great and feels right. Being on the journey of discovery prior to buying it however - i looked at all the models i could find - from 14060+/-(m) to the 5513, even a 6536 , 16610, 1680 and 16800- i plagued AD's and other retailers to learn all that i was able... and try them on too.... individually i found the merit of each was incontestable - and i can see why each of you love what you have yourselves..... but obviously i chose the new one cos of all the improvements, (as i saw them). In time and with luck id like to think i could perhaps cherry pick from the vintage collection here and there myself - but for now : I'm happy to be in the club , & Thanks again for making the knowledge you have accessible to the rest of us. |

Welcome to Trf and congratulations on a superb choice.
Pctures are popular here so would be great if you get a chance.

Puffy
Reflect back to your FIRST Rolex purchase. During the first 4 hours 3 minutes did you think of taking a picture. I doubt it - you just stared at it, at its beauty - probably didn't even know what time the watch was displaying.

ha ha - thanks for the welcome - most appreciated....
sorry but the photos just aren't forthcoming as yet because my camera doesn't seem man enough to provide the sort of shots i've seen on this site. i didn't want to post a substandard effort - so it'll have to wait till i've improved on the pics i have right now. But i can confirm - the watch is on my wrist - as usual - it DID happen |
