You know there must be a lot of guys who do not own a white dial watch, let alone a white dial Rolex...
This is going to be a hit, I can't wait...

i really like the new explorer, no doubt, but, i'm not 100% convinced it will be a "hit".

yes, it is a little bigger, which seems to fit the trend, but, when you get down to it, the biggest change is the giant orange hand and orange dial text, which is decidedly more polarizing than the old model's thin, discrete red hand and black lettering.

notwithstanding the level of excitement in the TRF/WIS world, in the end, the watch is priced within spitting distance of the GMTIIc and SubC, and for the average joe Q rolex buyer, i do not see them opting for the fixed SS bezel model over the new-fangled ceramics.

i am definitely not trying to put down the new watch. i think it's great and i think those that buy it will be VERY happy, but, i'm not entirely sure that after the initial buying frenzy it will represent a larger percentage of rolexes sold. i think it will still be a niche watch. (that's not necessarily a bad thing, either, for fans of the explorer ii.)

YES! and i may even BUY one if someone doesn't give me one.....was just trying to say that IMHO this excellent new watch is great, but not necessarily a "hit" in the making, that's all (and, ultimately, who cares if it's a "hit" or not, since it's what's on the wrist that matters). sorry if it came across any differently....

anywho, the main point here is that september is shaping up to be an EXCITING month!

Is it true that the idea for the orange hand on the EXII originated from a volcanic lava flow?

Specially designed to be a professional tool for cave and polar explorers (also worn by volcanologist Haroun Tazieff), the first Explorer II was presented in 1971.
