GMT Master 1675/03 - need assessment please

Hi all,

Rookie here. Great forum. Hope you can help me assess a 1675/03 GMT Master steel/gold combo I am considering buying in Europe.

I only have the attached pictures, but I hope the veterans of this board can easily pick out flaws and things to note, from them.

The serial no starts with 24xxxx, so I guess it is from around 1969 or 1970?

I would greatly appreciate any feedback/history/assessment of the watch and what you think is a fair price.

Thanks in advance!

The hands appear to have been replaced. They look super white. Do they glow? Could be luminova service replacements. Case looks like it's got some polish on it, especially the crown side. A lot of other factors determine a fair price, too. How's the movement? Any service history? I'm not too familiar with these TT versions, but some other members might be able to help more. Good luck!

The bracelet is a later replacement. The period correct would be with oval links.

And it is not the correct box either.

Are you selling or buying?

Thanks a lot to all for the help thus far.

I am potentially buying. I knew about the box which is a newer one. It does not come with a certificate and the service history is a blur at best. But it seems to run well and show time correctly (have not tested it thoroughly though).

Since I like the two tone jubilee on a GMT, I am trying to find out if it is worth it to buy this if the mechanics check out fine. So considering the aforementioned and that the bracelet is a newer one and the hands having been replaced (potentially) what do you guys estimate a fair price to be?

Or would you just walk out on this one, regardless of price? I am not really considering buying it for its vintage qualities (or lack thereof I guess).

What is the price? My best guess $3500.

I think I can get it for about the equivalent of $3,800 USD, which is amongst the lowest I have seen in Northern Europe for a similar GMT. But then again I am a rookie and have only bought new Rolex' in the past and have zero experience dealing second hand.

If you are a rookie I suggest paying a few dollars extra to buy from a trusted party makes sense. If don't know the buyer, don't know the history or service record, it comes with the wrong bracelet and updated hands etc, it is time to walk away. Never get too focused on the price.

Hi again guys,

Just found a vintage dealer who mostly specializes in old Omegas but also sells Rolex. He seems like he knows what he is talking about. I've attached some pictures of a 16753 he sold last year, which I would like to use as an indicator of the quality I might expect from him.

I would appreciate if you could comment on the quality and authenticity and what you believe such a piece should fetch today.

Most of his vintage watches come without papers, but he says he services and (pressure)checks all watches pre-sales. In addition he offers one year warranty on all watches.

Thanks again!

Hello again,

As I am close to make a purchase, I would very much appreciate if someone could assess the latest pictures shown in post #9 for quality/authenticity.

Thanks again!

Impossible to say without seeing it in person. I already suggested that you consider walking away but you seem set on getting it, so buy it and enjoy it.

In terms of resale value it might be a tough one. As we said, it has updated hands, a bracelet that doesn't match with plenty of stretch, the box is incorrect, the service history is unknown and both the case and bracelet seems rather heavily polished. On the upside, the dial seems correct and so it the crown.

Best of luck!

Thanks PSV, but the latest pictures in post #9 are of a different watch. The pictures in post #1 are of a 1675/3 from around 1969, whereas the latest pictures are of a 16753 from around 1985.

I decided not to pursue the 1675/3 after talking to the seller and verifying that it indeed came with an updated bracelet, etc.

I am asking for help to validate/price estimate the 16753 shown in the latter pictures (post #9) which comes from a dealer.

It seems fine to me but with the calendar wheel in that condition and the dial with some chipping I wouldn't pay more than $3300.00 for it.
