To extreme for 390???

I am seriously considering a panerai for my first real watch. Also considering the explorer ii 42mm. I have not been in the know regarding these watches until very recently, so I am not on anyone's waiting list for either. So, chances are i'm out of luck for both. However, I have a niece who is currently overseas and in a country that will probably have access to the 390 without as much demand as over here in the U.S. I took the liberty of calling a boutique today over there but they don't have any yet but are expecting some. What are the pros and cons of going this route? I would probably try to purchase on this end and have my niece retrieve simultaneously and ship to me.

Welcome here to the craziness!

I would recommend you getting on the list anyways and it won't hurt. Chances are small that someone has not already done the same but if you don't try, you will never know.

As to the Explorer II, I think its a lovely piece judging from pictures on the web and I am also on a list for one. Without trying it on, if they called me tomorrow, I would say please, here is my AMEX and please send me the watch!

Good luck on your choice.. but super and beautiful time pieces.

Best,

Fred

390 is a great piece that you'll be able to re-sell in a heartbeat if you don't like it.....that being said, i'm the kind of person that likes to try on a watch first, so, SEs/lists don't work well for me.

If you are able to get the 390 where you are at I would say go for it. You could always pick up the Explorer at a later date, when the initial excitement dies down.
