3135 - might be nice to see you more

Thomas Preik was recently featured in a few posts as a supplier of glass case backs. I liked the ability to see the movement, no doubts - but just had a couple of Q's for you gents:
would it require being re pressure tested if i got it fitted (i have a Sub C)
would it invalidate any water proof guarantee?
and - am i right in saying - Rolex dont do them, infact - its a sign you have a replica if you are approached to buy one like it normally???

as always - thanks in advance.........

Anytime the case back is removed you need to pressure check the watch to make sure nothing was damaged and it was installed correctly. My understanding is that his case backs are water proof, however since the Sub has a thicker case back and lower depth rating than watches such as the Daytona and GMTIIC you need to check this out to make sure it will have the same depth rating with one of his case backs.

Just remember Rolex movements are not known for their beauty as they are not finished to the degree of some other watches being made. They are more known for their durability and dependability.

Myself cannot see the point of glass backs, yes its nice to look at the movement ticking etc.But know-one is going to see it in normal wearing, and as Dan as pointed out,the Rolex movement is very plain Jane in the looks department. But its first class in all the important things like longevity of life, reliability and accuracy but IMHO looks best with what its got a solid steel back cover..

I think they look cool. His case backs are high quality but get a pressure test. I think it's a nice mod that doesn't take away from the watch.

Rolex mvmnts are just awesome ,TP casebacks are perfect since same height as the oem ,if you want to enjoy the sight of yr 3185 there s no reason to skip it.

The Daytona movement has the most to see - for what it's worth - compared to other Rolex watches IMO. And you won't be diving with it. If I
were going to put on a clear caseback, it would be on a Daytona.

I know I'm the new guy, non-owning rookie, but I just don't see how you CAN'T put a transp caseback on at least some models. granted, as previously mentioned, Rolex's aren't the most aesthetically pleasing, but they are still a marvel to look at, and with all the boasting about top shelf movements, show em off! Even if it's just for me to see or the occasional conversation piece, to me it just doesn't make any sense to hide it.

Thanks, and GO GIANTS/YANKEES!!!!!!
