Haggle?
So this question is for the seasoned Rolex buyers...Ive gone into diff jewelry stores and just talked watches for 10 minutes with the AD but never discussed price aside of what I saw on the little tag hanging from the bracelet. Do you basically haggle the price down or just start with the MSRP and ask if there is a discount, how does it work? Im no haggler but I'd like to learn so I can do it and make it worth me spending 4-5 grand in the future...

I am not a seasoned buyer so I wont be able to help you as much as you want but I would say that you start with the MSRP and try to negotiate a discount from there. In California, you start at MSRP and negotiate to see if they can wave the sales tax. Its very difficult finding a SS Sub Date at 10% off MSRP unless you have a good relationship with the AD.

Haggle is crude.You have to do it more refined.A lot of legwork and homework and you get the best deal eventually ... It important to get the best deal.Why ? Because it really comes into effect the day you sell it .... Profit is good when you can get it,but its not really the purpose.Not losing money or the least amount possible is what its about.Thats why Rolex is a good buy in the watch world I love them too,that makes it even better

Thanks for the responses! And yes, I love Iced Earth!! I am a heavy metal enthusiast. Play in a few metal bands around my neck of the woods. Keeps me busy. Been playing guitar for almost 13 years now and teach guitar for a living..so buying a rolex for me is far down the road but Im tryin to learn the ropes before my day comes to buy.

Walk in with this thought in the back of your head: you can never get what you don't ask for. Just be honest. Say "what's the best you can do on this watch?"
When they say "oh msrp is the best I can do". Don't stop there. Jokingly say "you gotta do better than that, I know the dealer down the street will" If that doesn't get a response, go somewhere else. |

I have bought quite a few Rolex watches over the time.
Depending on the MODEL, I suggest a discount to my AD: If it is the SS Daytona, I don't even bother asking for a discount! That would be silly. If it is any other sport's Rolex, I'd ask for up to 15 % discount. I got 10 % on my SS Sub Date, but my AD would give me 15 % on the Explorer II. If it is a GOLD or "less popular" model (like a plain 116200), I'd ask for 20 % discount.

The price you eventually pay is not due in anyway to consumer haggling, but what the AD is willing to sell it for. I have yet to see an AD say that he sold for less than he wanted to.

I know a dealer who discounts generously and will ship out of state to save sales tax. I had no trouble getting the discount, just asked for it over the telephone. If you are a serious buyer or want to be, I will assist you to meet these people. (ADs of course)

I'm no Rolex Expert - but getting a good deal for me was easy. I bought my Rollie whilst in the Far east while on a business trip. I identified two AD's within a mile or so of each other and window shopped both. Decided which one I felt better about (taking into account the attraction of the shop and the nicest cleavage) and went into the other. I knew exactly what I wanted and asked the salesguy for the best price before he even got it out of the window - he immediately dropped 15 percent - I took a look at the watch and asked him for his business card (so I could buy it from him in the near future) I was going to ask him to put the price on the back but he did it without asking
Next I went into the shop with the blonde and showed them the price I had beem offered from the first AD and told them if they could beat it I would buy it now...they did and I did. Interestingly the actual receipt showed a 15% discount and the salesguy told me he couldn't put the fully discounted price as he may get into trouble with Rolex.....needless to say the credit card payment was for a lower amount. Bit hard I know -but I knew what I wanted and was in and out of the shop in the time it took to fill out the details. Took over an hour to open the box when I got back to my hotel room - savoured every minute and neary missed my next fight |
