That's true, the danger I face here is mostly from rockets and mortars being thrown at us here. And thank you, staying safe is a priority.

Wear a cheap plastic watch when out of the country, East LA, certain parts of New York city, Chicago down low, or your neighborhood 7-11. Just pointers. And, let them think you own the place.

Well, I started the thread with a bad joke, just to get some attention..

Thanks for answers, of course I will think myself, if I will travel again with Daytona, or leave it to banks safety deposit box, I just thought, it would be nice to hear some info about Uzbekistan, if someone would have been there, because I never have.
Also interesting to hear this kind of stories, because it is very different here in Scandinavia :

I have plenty of Rolexes robbered in the last 20 years; first was an Submariner, in Sao Paulo (Itaim Bibi neighborhood) when I was in a car and a guy just stick a revolver in the car window...I get to use my Rolexes in the right wrist while driving to avoid over exposure.
Another time, in Botafogo, Rio, Leaving my daughter in a traditional school (Santo Inacio), same situation, a pistol over my head and a Rolex AirKing went away.
Some years later, walking with my labrador in Arpoador at night, at that time two bike boys with a revolver and I lost my Omega Seamaster.
Now I am with a brand new Rolex Sea Dweller Deep Sea and they robbered my wallet but I was cool enough to cover it with the other hand, appointing to where was my wallet (with the hand covering the Rolex and appointing the wallet) and this beauty is still with me - that happened in Sao Luis Maranhao.
When I am in Rio (my neighborhood is Ipanema, Gen. Osorio Square) I use my SDDS normally, only if is too late in the night that I hide him in the pocket. I mean, walking around Ipanema.
In Sao Paulo I NEVER use in the Congonhas airport because there are guys looking around and phoning for other thiefs that certainlly will rob you by bike during your taxi run.
Anyway I use Rolex wherever I am and only sometimes I hide. As someone said, you use Rolex even with the risk.
Of course, You always have to use your common sense, when wear expensive watch, even you have insurance.

I don't have any personal experience with Uzbekistan but I am under the impression that many of the former soviet republics are generally unsafe places. If you are going for sports then presumably you will have significant periods of time when you can't wear your watch. For that reason alone I'd consider leaving it at home and travel with a cheap digital that no one will care about. Good luck!
Ps out of interest what type of sport?

In all honesty you are probably just as safe traveling wearing your Rolex as you are walking around in your home city. I've worn my watches around the world and never felt as if it (or myself) was in any danger. As others have mentioned, use common sense. Although, most places you visit will be highly trafficked tourist areas, which will probably be safe, if you find yourself 'off the beaten path' then leave it back in the safe.

For peace of mind, if you had to ask this question then you will probably subconsciously be thinking about it the whole trip...leave it at home and enjoy your travels!

In some countries I wouldn't walk down the street wearing a g shock. Heck...even some places in the USA. It's all about common sense! Enjoy!

Guess Iraq has already been beaten to a horse, but I left the rolex at home and wore my Swiss army watch. I'm glad I did because my watch was nearly beaten up so badly out there with scratches and sand!

Well, everything went ok.
If You ever go to Uzbekistan, be sure, You have a lot of imodium with You. That seemed to be the main problem to everyone..(even in 4 star hotel).

Wore my Datejust in Ensenada Mexico with no problems. We were on a cruise and I intended to take off the watch and put in in my pocket while walking through the town. I forgot to do that. Right off the ship there were vendors selling all sorts of things including Rolex watches.

Considering the state of the world today, even wearing g-shocks is also not an option.

I would rather crush my DEEPSEA with a sledgehammer into smitherines than to lose it to some corrupt customs officer in a non-US country, where I have no rights or have it mugged out of me in a non-US country, where I have no rights. So whenever I leave the US, doesn't matter if it is for Switzerland or Bangladesh, or anything in between, I always wear a seiko or a g-shock.

One place that is extremely safe for Rolex, even if you have them taped on your forehead: McMurdo Base in Antarctica!!
