I suppose it`s possible that many people,myself included,thought that Omega watches were the only brand to go into space onboard a U.S. rocket as part of the `60s moon project.Well according to the record, NASA photographic history shows that several astronauts wore Rolex`s and that one Pepsi GMT Master in particular,worn by commander Ron Evans,walked on the moon in Dec. of 1972.

Just thought some of you might like to know,the next you hear some guy braggin` on his Omega moonwatch.

No one questions that Rolex watches have been flown in space (personal watches) but I have yet to see any documentation that a Rolex was ever worn on the moon.

No Rolex has ever passed NASA testing for EVA use whereas the Omega Speedmaster Professional continues to be standard NASA issue for astronauts.

The watch is a 1968 GMT Master 1675 Caliber 1580 serial# 2448718 .

The last man to walk on the moon was Gene Cernan and he definitely wore a Speedmaster Professional. Omega honored him by issuing the Apollo XVII limited edition Speedy Pro in his honor and named him as an Omega ambassador.

The GMT was worn on the shuttle and the International Space Station... NOT on the moon.... (on a quick glance)

Yes astronauts owned and used Rolex GMTs. They were pilots, and those were their watches, and they did travel to the moon with them and saw action aboard ship and, most likely, inside a space suit. The Omega Speedy chrono was the only one that passed NASA's rigorous tests (the 2nd most rigorous tests ever done on a watch -- #1 is the Bremont MB), and I believe the SPeedy was the only one that was ever worn on the outside of a space suit, and the only one operated in the vacuum of space. At least with the original missions in the 60's and 70's. I would be unsurprised if any myriad of other watches have been used to do spacewalks since then, but AFAIK only the speedy was used outside the suit and on the moon (and on a nylon strap, of course).

read that article - but there were no NASA official document stating the same.

sure - there were statements made by the auction galleries and mrs. Evans that the GMTII was on the surface of the moon.... but that state that GMTII was in a "perfect working condition" and "kept time" as they would've have expected from a NASA approved Omega moon watch.
