The additional tax in Denmark, when you buy a new car is 180%.. yes 180%. So that car would cost $35K USD + tax = $98K USD EDIT: Actually i forgot about MOMS (also a tax like VAT of 25% you can add to that also) The cheapest Audi A4 2011 without any extra equipment cost around $72K USD + a yearly tax of $2700 USD in Denmark. $32K in the US. Luckily there isn't any taxes on watches |

I drive a $7,000 Acura everyday and have an $8,000 Sub. I used to worry more about cars than watches, but it has changed in recent years. Rather have a nice watch than a nice car lately.

I've got a 95 BMW 325i that I paid $3500 for. Any one of my watches is worth more than that. I will spend $50k on a car (in fact, probably within the next year), but anyone that calls a car an "investment" doesn't know much about money.
I always laugh when people scrutinize a $7k watch purchase when they pay $50k for a car that will be worth less than 1/10th of that in 10 years.

I just sold my 3yo, top of the range Nissan pick-up for £12,000... I paid more than £26k for the damn thing.
I'm sick off losing a fortune on cars so I just bought an '01 Jeep Grand Cherokee for £2,850. My Nissan was scratched and half knackered from hauling a 4-horse trailer. The Jeep is, in every measurable sense, a "better" car... It had been owned from new by a wealthy city dweller who had just used it for the school run. It has moved to my muddy farm, been fitted with a tow bar and is about to learn the meaning of the word PAIN! If the Jeep lasts only one year I could put a match to it and have lost less than in a year of running the Nissan! In reality it will probably do my job for a couple of years and then still be worth £1k or so to someone. I'm done with new cars unless my accountant ever tells me I've made so much one year I need to "lose" a shedload to avoid a big tax bill... In that scenario I'd rather give the money to the car dealer than the tax man! Now that I've seen the light my next watch may be closer than I had thought!

Thank goodness...there are other people like me! My car is worth next to nothing. My Rolexes are worth quite a lot more than that!

One of the best aspects of watches is the lack of government involvement, no registration, no taxation, no stamp duty, no looking over your shoulder. I love my BMWs but it kills me that "the man" makes me jump through hoops to enjoy them. I've long been tempted to just go to a cheaper Bimmer and sink the remaining value I have in the cars into more watches, at least until I have something better to put that money into.

By tomorrow evening, my watch will be worth approximately twice as much as my car - 3-Series BMW - 15 years old.
However, even with 180K on the clock the old girl has been in my possession for a very long time and works like new so - why would I sell it? Can't wait to do the wrist shot with the gauges in front. |

Almost: I don't have a Rolex but my watches are more expensive than my train pass!

I often ride my $30 yard sale bike I bought in 2003 to get around my home.
I had cops stop me for "fitting the description" bs and they flipped my bike over to see if it's stolen. |
