Trade SMP for Speedy Pro?
My first luxury watch was the SMP black dial "James Bond". I've since bought a Rolex sub and don't see the point of owning two dive watches. The Omega still has sentimental value, being my first real watch. It also looks better (IMO) and feels more substantial than the sub. Nonetheless, I'm considering trading it out for a speedy pro. I don't particularly like the looks of the moonwatch. I honestly don't think it will get much wrist time. However, it has history, just like the submariner, so I think it would be a good trade for my slowly growing collection.
I'm just wondering what you guys think? Stick with my first love? Or go with the collectible? |

Difficult one, I wouldn't normally recommend selling a watch, especiallly your first one and one you love.
But the speedy pro is a fantastic watch and Id choose that over the SMP. |

First of all the speedy pro is an amazing watch, if you haven't already then take a look at one in the flesh and see that beautiful matt grey(it's not black) dial and you'll know why it's a must have.
That said I think in 5-10 yrs time you'll be thinking I wish I still had the smp, even if you only wear it once per wk. That's how I find myself, now wishing I kept all my earlier pieces. Don't sell something unless you truly don't like it anymore or need the cash. Maybe later the speedy will grow on you and you can buy it later as already suggested. |

DON'T DO IT!!!!!! I had a Black SMP that I bought march last year, I loved it it was my daily wear till Dec when I decided to trade it for my second Rolex, a EXPII which became my daily beater, but after about a month I missed my SMP so much, it was such a great watch, so a couple of weeks ago I couldnt stand it any more and I called DavidSW and had a new one back on my wrist. a very expensive lesson. Never sell a watch you love!!!
hope you make the right decission

Who cares what history comes with a watch. If you don't like it then you don't like it.

If your SMP were a 2254.50 model, I would say keep it. Nonetheless, your Bond model is a nice one as well and would be difficult to give up as it is your "first love". However, there is just something special about the Speedmaster Professional 3570.50 though. Fr John pointed me in the direction of the "Speedy Pro" and I'm glad he did. I am fortunate to have both the SMP and the "Speedy Pro" and consider both keepers.
However, if you don't particularly like the looks of the "Speedy Pro" and are not sure it would get much wrist time, you should think long and hard about getting one. If you do get a Speedmaster Professional I think you would enjoy the watch. It is such a good looking functional watch and so much history. You simply can't go wrong with a "Speedy Pro", IMHO. Cheers, Bill P. |

Like Dan said, to me it seems that you really enjoy that SMP (even more than your Sub) and that Speedy doesn't seem to be your cup of tea. I'd hate to sound stupid on the ROLEX forum but perhaps you could sell your Sub instead and get another Rolex model that you would enjoy as much and keep that beloved Omega of yours? Of course if you can afford it you could also keep both and buy another model.

I traded a SMP and regret it all the time. (hopefully will pull the trigger on one tonight). I have a GMT SMP which I love to bits. Every time I sell an Omega Seamaster, I end up buying another and the SMP and the Sub are very different beasts.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I think I'll keep the SMP. If I can convince the wife to let me spend a few grand on a collectible watch, I'll get the speedy pro. There's a nice/mint one on Ebay (caliber 861) right now going for $2600, with another 3 days to go before close of auction (itemID=150676241058). Otherwise, I'll wait for my 40th BDay and hope to find one just as nice.
Quick question: how commonly do you see the speedy pro on leather bands? That EBay item looks rather stunning with black leather. It could actually grow on me! |

Golden rule...... Never sell your first watch! Serious regrets down the line if you do.......
The Speedy Pro is both an amazing and seriously iconic watch and should be in every WISs collection....... However, if you don't like the look of it, you butt up against the second Golden rule.....Never buy a watch you don't like........ |
