Guys:

So, I'm looking to make another watch purchase. I currently own a 16600 Sea-Dweller. It is, IMHO, the best watch ever devised. Also, my dad has a 1680 Red Sub that I wear at times when we trade watches.

I'm currently thinking of getting a 5513... but I'm hesitant. I already owned a 14060M about two years ago. I sold it within a few months b/c the lack of a date function really annoyed me. By getting a 5513, do you think I'm making the same mistake?

On the one hand, the 5513 would not be my daily wearer. I'd wear it to work occassionally and at nights and on weekends sometimes. So, I don't think the lack of a date function would be terrible. Additionally, it is different from the 16600 b/c it is vintage, and I'd like to own something with patina and cool, acryllic dial.

On the other hand, I think I may be making the same mistake. I sold my 14060M b/c it didn't have a date, which is the EXACT SAME as the 5513.

So, any advice? Am I making the same mistake, or are the 5513 and the 14060M so different that the 5513 is a totally new and different watch that I should try out?

Oh, additionally, I'm looking at maybe getting a Tudor Sub with a Roulette date wheel. Any thoughts on the Tudor Sub vs. 5513 are appreciated as well.

Well I so want a no date Rolex, but the lack of date would drive me mad and would limit the wearing to down the boozer with my buddies and not the office. So I would swerve 1553 in your shoes. Tudor Subs are great, how about the Sub 16800 these are starting to look older and have the date option. I am guessing GMT (1675 or 16750) isnt on the list, it would give you a representative of another sport model in your collection? Just a thought

You can never go wrong with a nice vintage Rolex. Date is not important. It's on the main screen of your cell phone. Don't need to know the date often either. Vintage Tudor are very nice too. Choices...

If the date is that big of a deal why don't you get a 1680 instead?

Lack of date is not a big deal for me but it is just me.

14060 and 5513 looks nearly the same, I would prefer modern.

Already have a 1680, b/c my father has a 1680 Red that I wear sometimes. A white 1680 seems redundant?

You already have probably the best Rolex ever in the 16600 and it's almost like not having a date function.

An acrylic GMT would be a nice addition.

I don't need a date function, but it sounds like you do. In that case, I don't think the 14060 and 5513 are that different that you would not miss the date.

Those 1675s are AWESOME. Especially with the radial dial. And especially with the faded inserts. But I am partial to divers.

I went from my daily wearer being the last model ExplorerII to a Daytona, and the lack of a date bothers me every day. If I didn't love the Daytona so much, I might have to do something about it, but I do love this watch.

There are those of us who like to have the date on our watches, and those who don't. None of us "need" it, but when it comes right down to it, none of us "need" a watch anymore. We wear them because we love them. And if you know you like having the date, I wouldn't rush to buy another one without it.

Here's what I did and it seems like my situation is nearly identical to yours. Over the past two years, I've owned countless Sub variations, but I'm a stickler for the date and not such a huge fan of wearing a cyclops every day. Usher in the 16600, the best of both worlds. I've owned several 14060s and loved the watch other than lack of date. I've had vintage and loved it too, so my latest acquisition is a 1680 with a superdome crystal and no cyclops. This is a great way to get your vintage mojo happening, with a date and it flies under the radar just like a 14060 or 5513. It is featherweight compared to my 16600.

5513 is a great watch with a cool matte dial, get it and wear it on special occasions (me thinks).

These guys got it right. I have a no date sub and it's awesome, light, comfy and easy to wear...very stealthy in you want to fly under the radar.
