Is this Comex real?

The only shot I have of it...just wondered what the experts here think.

Thanks!

Hi Kevin,

Not an expert on vintage stuff, but from what little I can see, I think that one's the real McCoy.

I think I might have answered my own question...looks like another ebay scam! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/COMEX-ROLEX-SU...QQcmdZViewItem

There is a seller on the bay right now with the EXACT same wording for this watch. They are a new seller so I smell something fishy!

Check this link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...0185&rd=1&rd=1

The photo was taken from a well known website. The other photos show a fake.

Bezel moves in both directions??? Yeah, right. Why do people even bother looking to buy a Rolex on E-bay, or anything else for that matter.

Well, actually that could be the case depending on vintage. 1680, 5513/2, and 1665 had friction bi-directional bezels.
The advent of the ratching uni-directional bezel made it's first apperance with the reference 16800 circa 1979-80.

The bezel on my 1680 Sub is bi-directional.

Seriously? As a diver, the only reason for a uni-directional bezel is because it could not be accidently moved in the wrong direction and allow the diver to think he/she had more time than they actually did, which could be VERY serious. I do not understand why Rolex would do that, not that I don't believe you, I just don't understand.

Yeah, it would seem Rolex saw the potential problem it the bi-directional bezel and improved on the design via the uni-directional bezel now found on the modern pieces.

Umm.......my opinion is fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake, fake.

Oh, did I mention fake!

If you look at the pictures, they are of two different watches.

Notice one of them say Comax not Comex.

Not to mention it is a fake.

But seriously, the case-back engraving is TOTALLY wrong!

Comex watches have been documented and scrutinised substantially. There is a lot of information regarding Comex models as well as issue numbers, BUT this information is a carefully guarded secret only discussed/traded amoungst a very privileged few.

Just in case you didn't get it it's a FAKE!!!

John.

I don't trust it or the seller. OK-they're bogus. However, I really enjoyed reading up on those watches on DoubleRedSeaDweller.com. Great stuff there!

Its quite simple know-one in there right mind would buy a Comex watch of Ebay. With this type of watch the correct and checked provenance is worth almost as much as the watch
