Opinions on the Seawolf...
I am contemplating getting my first Breitling ...
I am a WIS from when I was still very young, my focus is dive watches and have owned many brands...I must admit I never gave much thought about buying a Breitling... I don't really like how they seem to be fixated with aviation (especially in marketing themselves). I don't like busy dials and polished watches (so that cuts out 98% of Breilting watches for me) and I don't care about planes. I am a diver and think of me more as the 'marine' kind of guy...still I know Breitling makes some sturdy, well built watches that are definitely reliable underwater so I am thinking why not give the brand a chance... I have looked at the Superocean steelfish but cannot get around all that useless numbers and hash marks on the dial. IMHO they make it look unecessarily busy... I like the clean dial Abyss but then it doesn't have a lume pip on the bezel....so by default I am leaning more and more towards a stainless steel Seawolf which is slightly heavier and larger than I like it to be. Any of you guys here have smallish wrists (6.6 inch) and wear a seawolf? Is it comfortable? Also what are the general impressions of the watch? Also do any of you own a DSSD also...which do you find the most comfy and prefer (cos then I might just go the full hog and get a DSSD )? Pics are always most welcome! Sincere thanks ... |

I've got an Avenger Seawolf, black face with batons. I've got it on the ProII bracelet. It's a great watch for sure. Once you've worn it for even a short period of time you don't even notice the weight, very comfortable. The only thing that I sometimes notice is the fact the bracelt is not tapered like a Rolex. I think because of that I sometimes 'notice I'm wearing' it on the underside of my wrist. I will be trying it on a Diver ProII with deployment clasp in the near future. I think it's good to be able to change between a bracelet and a strap. A great bonus.
Before I got the watch I did consider the DSSD (which IMHO is the better watch) but I couldn't bring myself to pay the extra £s. |

I am a seawolf owner and can tell you that I receive more complements on my seawolf than any of my rolexes GMT-C, milgauss GV. I can also attest that the size and weight only bother my girlfriend as she always finds a way to position herself in it's direct path. I will also say the size makes you aware how small 40mm really is. I find it gets the most wrist time. The overall quality of the case, bracelet, is on par with my rolexes. The money begins to show in the dial and hands, not that the breitling is low quality, but it is lacking the use of precious metals on the dial. I also have the pro II bracelet brushed, and one thing I recommend is purchase a polished pro II it makes a world of difference. I have many pics I would like to post, however I still have not been told how to transfer pics from my I phone album to this forum. If anyone would share this info I would be grateful.

I have the Ti and SS versions and wear both regularly when diving. As a purely functional dive watch, the bezel is not as easy to read in poor vis' as bezels that are black with white markers, although in truth, I've always managed to track bottom time okay.

Try to look for an older Ti version. Splendid watch (not very good lume though)

I prefer the SS version since it seems to me that the grade of Ti Breitling used for the seawolf is not the best...

not sure I agree re Ti Seawolf but I am biased. I picked this one up pre-owned a few weeks back and I am very pleased with it. the Ti and yellow face really work IMO.

Thread resurrected
Went to an AD intending to buy a seawolf. I wanted a blue dial and they did not have it in the seawolf, but had it in the steelfish. I also like the numeral hour markers on the seawolf. I wound up getting the steelfish and am very satisfied with it. The seawolf is really a hunk of metal (I have an 8.5" wrist so I can handle it). The steelfish seems a bit more wearable, IMO. I agree that the bezel is not really suitable for serious diving, more of an accoutrement. For diving I do not use my nice watches but rather a wrist computer and a basic console computer for backup.

The Seawolf is a great watch, but between it and the Steelfish...I prefer the Steelfish hands down. I think that the fish is the best Breitling you can buy for the money and is MUCH more comfortable than the Seawolf for someone with wrists under 7" (mine are just over 6.75"). I had an Avenger about a year ago, but I ended up selling it because it was just too big/heavy for my personal taste. The only way I would wear a Breitling that big is if it were in Titanium.
