Very interesting! Whowouldathunkit that a new(old) watch would have to end up eating $500 for a service. Guess that's something to ponder when looking at older dated Rollies in the AD case.

Yes, I'm sure he does...

I was just using the "$500" as a round number for an assumed service cost from a RSC; that's it!

Still "5 year service" rule should apply to all mechanical watches, worn or not.
I sent mine out for service after 4 years of daily use. It is a 2002-2003 Y serial GMTII (with lug holes) purchased Sept03, so probably sat on display for a while. I'm so glad I decided not to put it off.

Intersting Nick,

Question: Why would there be metal shaving in the gummed up oil if the watch was never worn? Where would these comes from?

Just a guess here, but the oil is going to trap any minute piece of metal that was ever ground off of any gear that has been put in the watch. Also, the watch was run during the COSC test. This could also grind off a TINY amount of metal due to fabrication intolerances that are ever so slight. We're talking tiny gears here, so there will be some 0.000001 pieces that are simply ground off when the watch is first run.

Anyway, that's my idea. If I'm correct, can I have a cookie? White chocolate macadamia please.

So, Nick, you would have this NOS Daytona 16520 serviced right away, if you were the buyer??

Thanks for the info Nick. I have been searching for some vintage pieces and have seen "NOS" alot. Most times "NOS" has turned out to mean "fake"

So if you could get a "P" serial or for a few hundred more a "Z" serial I guess it makes sense to buy the "Z".
