Why is there not a Day Date Submariner?

I’ve been thinking about this lately. It seams like a good ideal. Has any one ever created there own by mixing movements and cases?

Just curious.

Day date submariner sounds a bit odd to me. I don't that anyone ever created this thing. On the other hand i would be curious to see how one would look.

Rolex will not dilute its brands by giving too much with one watch which would decrease the mystique of the other brands and the desire to get each one. They are smart. You will never see this. You will never see a Sub GMT. You will never see a TOG with GMT qualities. You will never see an Explorer with a moveable bezel. You will never see a Sub with a third travel hand. By keeping the brands distinct, the need to fill niches remains strong, so most Roller fans will get 3 or 4 in their lifetimes unless they go mad like some of us and start collecting or flipping them.

If you need to remember what day it is while you are 30 meters underwater while SCUBA diving, then either you are not enjoying your dive or have Nitrogen Narcosis. !!

Agreed!!

Rolex can easily put a day on the Submariner if they wanted to. But they choose not to and thats exactly how I like it.

Well first the Rolex sub was meant to be a tool watch,a divers watch and afraid the day or date is not a lot of use underwater.But today dont expect 75% of all divers watches bought,ever see water deeper that the shower or swimming pool.

Here here!! Why dilute perfection?

I think the addition of the day would be inapropriate, turning the sub from a sports/dive watch to a non-descript 'jack of all trades' (just my opinion!).

Oh - and i'm sure there would not just be be a 'small' price increase for the facility!

If they did make the Sub a DD watch...they'd have to make all versions out of solid gold or platinum.

There has actually been a stainless steel version of the Day Date released at one point in time. I'm sure they are extremely rare to find today.

I sort of like the idea of a Day/Date Submariner. Like many here, I don't think Rolex would make one, but I do like the idea.

To be honest i cannot imagine a day date submariner it looks odd to me. I am just curious to see how it would look like. I always combined the submariner with the classic look that it had.

As a designer myself I will say I respect the original design intent of the Submariner. I also agree that if you are diving you do not need to know what day it is. Now with that said, I personally feel that the original demographic for the submariner has changed over time. I do not see this as a watch exclusively for divers. I see this as a watch for everyday use, particularly for the younger generation. This is what I had in mind when I asked the question. I personally do not dive, but I do wear my Submariner daily and I would like very much appreciate the feature of having the day and the date on the watch.

I guess I could always build a custom Submariner with day and date if I absolutely had to have one.

Just curious.

If I have the opportunity to dive - I'm likely on vacation and really don't care what day it is!

But with a week like I had this week - the day's just seemed to run together!
