[QUOTE=Dob;2891197]...that you have a wide range of watches to choose from and don't have to buy one. Personally, having owned every modern sport model made by Rolex at one time or another, I find it the most legible of any I have owned. To each his own, I suppose.
Where is the hour hand on this one!? Looks legible when the sun is on it for sure when the hands look "silver" in other shots they look black? |

Big dial, fat hands, big watch. The EXP42 isnt necessarily my fave either but it's far from hard to read.

Actually I'm starting to see the OP's point! The hour hand isn't really a hand - more of a ....circle/disc/spot? It doesn't really have any 'length'?

The watch is really man jewelry... To tell the time, simply look at your phone! :-) having said that, I think the black face Explorer II is intentional to be a bit stealth... It goes with the current black on black trends (driven by consumer demands). I've seen it with other watches and also cars painted with "black ice". Expect some after market PVD Rolexes soon if not already... For a sports watch, the dial on the rolexes are not considered busy. There are much worst. And for that matter, there are MANY fine watches that don't cost as much as a Rolex. However, if the Rolex brand is appealing to you, consider the day/date... Available in MANY combinations.... You just have to do your research and find the one that works for you.

I have the white 216570 and find it highly legible. Part of my getting this watch is that it does not immediately identify itself to people as a Rolex. I didn't want this watch for any perceived prestige as others mention, but because I appreciate the quality and workmanship as well as the history behind the brand.

Boss, I am afraid that may not even be the answer for the OP. If he can't see the black dial on the 216570, I highly doubt he will be able to properly see the black dial on a Sub...

My white expy 42 is not only my most legible Rolex, but my most legible watch period.
The only modern Rolex that is a little tough for me to read is the black Daytona. |

Get a white Milgauss - I think you have difficulty reading the time when the dial is black? But then you think the watch face is small...
