Zenith Daytona has landed... and a quandry

Yes! Here's a really bad shot from my phone of the T serial Daytona which I will follow with the quandry part

She's getting her first desk diving swirls as I post this. Thanks to everyone for their input and I'll post more\better pics when I can. Here's the rub... I was in negotiations for a 116619 (WG Smurf Sub) before I pulled the trigger on this beauty. It was an Ebay auction that I offered to end early with a buy-it-now, and things just didn't work out. Now the seller of that watch has come back to me and dropped his price to &15k if I'll act quickly. He only has a few feedback points on the bay (100% though), and has posted plenty of pics of the watch.

What do you guys and gals think of this? He's not trying to circumvent PayPal or anything (he offered it in fact), but in my reading of the "Buyer Protection" with PayPal, the details are kind of murky. Any advice would be appreciated as to what you would do in this situation as I value the forum's opinion.

(Speaking of PayPal, I just realized my Pledge had lapsed during my extensive break. Donation sent )

As Ken said RUN!
FYI you can only use PayPal up to. 10,000 usd. For that much of a deal I would fly there, inspect it in person at an AD and let them hold it while I do a wire transfer. That is the ONLY way.
My opinion is that this eBayer is trying to scam you.
Lovely Daytona! I've been looking for one since March.

That's my feeling as well. I realize there are some "deals" out there as I enjoy researching the watches and negotiations almost as much as wearing the pieces themselves. But some other things have come to light since I made the OP. His location on Ebay is only about 90 miles from me so I offered to go meet at an AD for the deal (when we originally spoke and I thought this was still part of the deal), and now he says he's in Chicago until next Friday. Meh... take what I've got and be happy.

I should add that I'd be keeping the Zenith even if I got the Sub.

Sounds like a complete scam...Almost $9,000 off of a UCR fee of 24K....NOT!

Unless you can personally inspect the watch (by way of a closeby AD) and feel totally comfortable with the buyer, don't do it! Better to be safe than VERY sorry!

Congrats on the Daytona...such an awesome piece!

You should buy us all a drink for saving you $15,000.

This item is not covered by paypal protection, the guy changes his location and comes back to you with a lower price after the auction? What makes up his low feedback? Is it high-end stuff or things found in a garage and received a positive feedback for it?

In person, 1/2 way meeting point at AD or no deal at all. Let see who flintches first. Keep it mind, we are talking about $15,000 tax-free. BTW: Jack and coke for me.

Nah I'm not. Like I said, once the face to face wasn't an option I was out, and he didn't let me in on that little tidbit until after my original post. There's not an AD between here and there (his supposed eBay locale) and that's the only place I'd do the deal. And if I buy you a drink and you mix it with a coke, it'll be the last I buy you. You're welcome to a swig of my Lagavulin 16 year though

Yeah well since you went there too... I kinda started screwing with him and told him I only had $14k after purchasing the Zenith. He accepted and I just replied, "Ok see you when you get back then". Then, of course, he started stalling and offered to send 2 PayPal invoices for under $10k so I'd be protected by PayPal. Yeah... I'm sure they'd just hand me my money right back.
