I have a manual wind watch.. but its moving without me winding it?!
Hey guys, this is possibly a stupid question lol...
So.. this is my first manual wind watch.. it's a 337. I didnt wind it for a few days, didn't wear it at all. Picked up and slapped it on, and I was gonna wind it in a bit, I was just in a bit of a rush, so I just grabbed and it and put it on my wrist without changing the time or anything as of yet. When I went to go wind the watch and set the time, i noticed it's moving!................... how is this possible? I thought this would be classifed as a automatic then?? |

Maybe it has something to do with the 60hr power reserve the 337 has?!?

Two things.
1. Your mainspring may not have been fully unwound and your movement "loosened" it to keep unwinding. Think of a snag 2. Just moving a watch somewhat violently will cause the escapement to move a little and hence move the watch.

I don't 100% follow, when you say my mainspring may not have fully be unwound, does this mean when I wind up my watch and then I push the clutch in and screw it in, I am doing something wrong?

Now let's say the ball is near the bottom of the hill and there is a tiny, tiny pebble that caused the ball to stop rolling. The ball has some more energy in it as it isn't at the bottom of the hill, but the pebble stopped it. This is the mainspring rubbing against the barrel. Now a wind comes along (aka you pick up your watch). That wind is enough to send the ball back down its way and start up your watch (albeit for a very short time). Hope this analogy helps. Here is a cool old school video to show you more about how a watch works if you aren't up on it all. (mainspring, barrel, hairspring, etc.) http://ialreadyhaveawatch.com/watch-...ch-works-1949/
