The New Watch Dilemma
The other day, I picked up my GMT Master (T serial number) from my AD after having it sent to RUSA for an overhaul. I dropped off my 1986 DD Tridor (with a WG bezel) to be sent in for an overhaul as well. While we were there, my wife pointed to a watch she liked and, on the spur of the moment, I bought it for her as a surprise birthday present (her birthday is next week). It's a 179160 (Z serial number) with a salmon dial, smooth bezel. It's her very first Rolex and she loves it ... the AD gave me a smokin' deal, perhaps due to the Z serial number. Nonetheless, it's a great watch.
Now, here's the dilemma. When we went back to the AD the next day just to "browse," I saw an awesome 116234 (blue face, index markers, jubilee bracelet). It's absolutely gorgeous. It's the one I wanted to get about 15 years ago, but it was vetoed by the ex-wife because she didn't like watches with blue faces and didn't want to have to look at it on my wrist all the time. I don't know where my cajones were back then, but I never got that watch. That's likely part of the reason she's an "ex-wife," for whom a special place is reserved in Hell. But, I digress. Well, now, seeing that blue faced beauty again stirred up a lot of old feelings, both good and bad. I'd love to get the DJ and my wonderful, second wife (who advises that she's permanent, if I like breathing, and who I should've married to begin with) is encouraging me to go for it. Being relatively frugal with myself, I'm finding it hard to justify such a purchase since I've got the GMT and the DD already. Am I just simply in need of a therapist? Am I transferring those old feelings of regret onto the DJ? Do I really need 3 Rolexes? I know that's a ridiculous question to ask here, but I'm interested in your opinions. Thanks. |

I say that if you can afford it, you should get it. But of course, it's up to you.
...Just my 2 cents. |

Only after you own it you will know the answer.
It's a good feeling. |

Only you really know, doesn't sound as if you need to make a quick decision though. Give it a couple of weeks and if you still feel the same go for it.

That makes A LOT of sense to me. Sometimes, one gets too caught up in the process and takes no time to reflect. Thanks.

No problem, and good luck with your decision.
