Trade advice requested

I have a trade I'm working on for a gmt master dated to ~1990. It's in excellent condition and runs well.

I'm considering trading my nearly new pam380 for it which I value around 3800-4000 trade.

The Rolex has a jubilee bracelet and is basically the watch I've always wanted.

What would you do??

Make the trade. Not a fan of PAM's and the GMT is a classic.

Just do your research if no papers. Make sure everything is correct.

these are pretty different watches....i guess, if you've always wanted a 20-year old GMT, why not go for it? you'll enjoy it more. might want to check the service record, i suppose, or you might find yourself with a pretty hefty bill.

If it's in excellent condition and keeping good time then I would. Obviously I'd make sure everything about it is 100% legit and you trust the other party. And as someone else mentioned, see if you can get the service history, how many previous owners, etc... You don't want a stolen serial numbered watch!

If all that is good then green light all the way. You've even said it yourself, it's the watch you've always wanted... well then what are you waiting for? :)

That's what I'm hoping to do! Awaiting the answer to a few questions advised here then it'll probably be a green light.

it sounds like quite a fair trade based on your value assessment of your PAM, so if it's all legit and in the condition you want, I'd say go for it.

The photos I have seen make it appear like its not been worn for the majority of its existence or it was recently overhauled which I've been informed is unknown.

Make sure you check the jubilee bracelet and ensure it isn't stretched to bad.

Just make sure the trader is legit and be sure to ask all the questions you can before completing the deal.If you start getting vague implausible answers to any of your questions dig deeper and if things start to feel off then walk away.Better to let one get away than end up with a problem.

Good luck!

In case you`re wondering,I`d make that trade in a heartbeat if I had a 380 and the trader was legit.

Sean,
A GMT with papers is always worth a little more and easier to sell, if you decide to flip it as quickly as the 380.
BTW I'd love a 1675 one day, or a 16700. Nowhere near the bulk of the Panerai.

The old adage of "buy the seller, not the watch" also holds true.
Good fortune to you with the deal mate.
Cheers
Richard

it looks like it's a done deal. I've kept my eye out nearly constantly for a jubilee GMT and it finally landed.

Looks like next week I'll have a new watch. We shall see if this one remains in the stable for longer than the Panerai!

When I first started looking for a nice watch this July I had my heart set on a rolex, originally the current GMT, but I felt it was just too much watch for me so started eyeing the milgauss and exp II. Then I caught the Panerai bug and now it's back to square one...

i think this one is a keeper!

I should have read the post earlier. I have a 1990 "E" series with a Jubilee Im thinking about selling. I bought it new & wore it about 6 mos & put it up. Never been opened up, serviced, or refinished.
