What is the fuss about this pen

When I dipped into another pen forum, I encountered a cult following of a series of Pilot fountain pen, particularly the Pilot MYU from the 70's and the recent remake M90.

Once I learn more about this pen, I though I must get one.

Here is my NOS Pilot 701. The pen, coupled with fine nib is ideal for small hand. Its minimalistic design is typical of Japanese style yet unique in its own right.

Writing with it is fantastic. The fine nib runs as wet and smooth as a roller ball, making it a very practical pen.

This is a birthday gift to my daughter who is in university art & design program. She loves Japanese stuff and I hope this will cheer her up.

My recent new pen purchase was an oldie from when I was a kid. The Fisher Space pen. I use it daily now in circumstances where it's abilities really shine and are indeed useful. All the while while my Mont Blanc's of all flavors are locked up in my vault. I work in retail sales and I don't relish the thought of losing one of them.

That's quite a pen! Inlaid nibs were popular during the 1960s and increasingly so during the 70s and 80s. I have just ONE question.

...How does it fill?

Roger, I like it very nice looking with clean lines and since I have small hands and like extra fine nibs or smaller is perfect!!!

The pen is actually designed as a traveler to use with cartridge. I got an OEM converter, which is somewhat on the small side.

Indeed, indeed. The price sticker says 3500yen, which is about USD30 back then. I paid lot more than that. The recent limited edition M90 (2007?) is going for an insane price on the bay.

I got mine NOS for ~$200
They are almost impossible to find in any store. I even tried some in Japan.

This should give you an idea on prices

Hmm...do you use it at work? Any comments? I'm sort of unsure about using a nice pen in the office...as in one that costs more than 5 cents

Regardless it looks sweet.

Sure. I found renewed pleasure in using fountain pen and actually writing on nice notepad. I am an IT guy and my fingers only touched keyboard for 20+ years.

Similiar answer to the question "Do you wear a nice automatic watch at the office? I am used to inexpensive quartz digital."

Having never owned one I don't know an answer to your question, but this one is on my radar just due to the fact that it is a unique design. Like it very much!

Interesting looking pen. If the nib gets damaged, is it game over?

Yup, that's why they are difficult to find in good condition.
