daytona
before you know it im in love with a daytona, at this rate i'll be bankrupt soon
so to my questions: 1) i hear the legibility is terrible, anyone ever tried AR coating? Can we do it? 2) how many of you have gotten the PCL's brushed? (pics please) 3) are dials and hands available for it? (i want a stainless steel one with white dial but would love the WG red hands, or even a blue dial) thanks again, expect the veterans of the forum will appear shortly with answers. P.S trying to figure out a cure for this rolex fever before it gets worse |

Your best bet is to leave the Daytona just the way it left the factory.

Don't ruin it by making any changes! It is a thing of beauty as it is! Who cares if you can read it or not? Do you really need to know the time? That is what a mobile phone is for.

It's your watch, customize it however you would like....
Red hands are cool and I have seen some pictures of not only the PCL's brushed out, but the entire watch too It looked great IMO- Good luck on any direction you try and explore |

There are only two authorized options in SS, either Black or White.
Most will say that White is easier to read than Black. However I find even the White is not as easy to read as a lot of my other watches. I think it has to do with the width of the hands and because the hands are white and silver and so is the dial. Regardless I have no problem looking at this watch a bit longer to tell the time as I enjoy looking at the watch. Other dials and hands can be found, but you'll have to get them from other sources than directly from Rolex. Make sure you source original Rolex parts and make sure you keep your original parts. Once yopu find them and they can be expensive, you'll have to find a third party willing to do the mod for you which shouldn't be to hard to find. There are a couple of memebers which have had the bracelet brushed. Remember that Rolex will not service your watch unless it has been returned back to it's original form.

Take a look at a Speedy Pro. Solves most of the challenges you identified.

I picked up a SS Daytona, black dial, nine weeks ago. Not as easy to read at a glance as a Submariner for instance, even more challenging in minimal lighting, you just have to take a longer glance and enjoy the view, in my biased opinion.
Modding can be done, whether it's worth the time and money only you can decide. |

1) Legibility is not an issue to me, the biggest thing is missing the date function.
2) I actually like the PCL's but there are a fair number of those who have brushed the PCL's. 3) Yes and yes. If you want an SS dial you can usually find one for under $850 or so. Unless you have very good connections, WG dials seem to go for $1400 and up on the open market depending on which one and your luck. Finding a set of red hands is much harder than finding a dial. Dials are only hard to find if you are trying to keep to a budget or are impatient. I was able to get my dials swapped by a watchmaker at an AD. They hesitated at first since it was such a foreign request to them, but once they realized that the dial was legit, that I was aware that this was against Rolex USA policy and willing to take responsibility, and that there was nothing technically wrong with swapping a dial, they did it. Cost me $150 and two days turnaround time. Both are beautiful, but I am happy with my decision |

don't bother to brush the PCLs. with daily use, they'll scratch enough to the point it looks brushed...
