TRF made me a WIS . . .

. . . and there's no turning back. When I joined this forum I was in the process of purchasing a GMT ll, F series. I didn't really have any knowledge of Rolex except for the reputation and I figured I owed it to myself to get one. To tell you the truth, I second guessed myself several times on my purchase because I have never wired thousands of dollars to some company I found on the internet. Red flags didn't go up, but my New York instincts made me wonder what the hell I was thinking sending money to some company on the internet. I looked at their reviews, though, and contacted the BBB in their area and everything was okay, but still . . . This is a company on the internet selling a watch that people make millions counterfeiting. Nevertheless, the price was right, so I placed the order the Friday after Thanksgiving. Needless to say, I had a long weekend to wait for my watch. A long anxiety filled, stressful weekend. Monday the watch went out. Tuesday it arrived and it was just as nice as described! I was ecstatic! I wore it proudly every minute. But then I noticed it was a running little fast, so seeing how it was an older watch I took it to the RSC to have it serviced. Those were the longest three weeks of my life!
I missed my watch. My new little buddy. This friend of mine told me about this other watch that was very popular. The Seiko Black Monster! I checked it out on this forum and it had rave reviews. And . . . it was affordable! So, I bought one to placate me until my Rolex came back.
I loved that little Monster, but I still had too much time on my hands thinking about my Rolex. Waiting for it to come back home. So, I cruised the "For Sale" section of this forum and I discovered that I wanted a Panerai. The PAM 50! I liked the size of it. Low and behold a seller with a wonderful reputation had one. DavidSW. I contacted him . . . I though about it.
While I was thinking my GMT was ready a week early! I ran up there to get it. The New York RSC did a remarkable job. After I picked up my Rolex I decided to go into Wempe to see a PAM 50 in person. Once I did I knew had to have one! It fit my wrist perfectly!
But then I saw another ad for a PAM 48. Same size, but this came with box and papers and three straps. It was more expensive, but it had box and papers and three straps! David's was watch only. No box or papers.
My friend who became my WIS consultant told to get the 50, though, because of the stainless steel band. I can always buy straps, but SS bands for Panerai are expensive. Besides, David has such a stellar reputation. I knew his merchandise was authentic and probably in a lot better condition then he had it listed for. So, I pulled the trigger, wired him the money and next day . . . PAM 50! And I was right . . . It was in a lot better condition then he had described!
Now I have a GREAT watch family! Rolex GMT ll, Seiko Black Monster, Panerai Pam 50. I am content . . . I have all the watches I want. All the watches I need.
. . . or do I?

Good story.

Enjoy your temporary moment of satisfaction.
It'll likely wear off soon and you'll be hunting for your next.

I think many of us were WIS's before we even knew it, this community just helps to bring it out of us. Thought I am still very new to all of this, I am hooked on this community and look forward to enjoying it for years to come. As much as I enjoy the watches what I really enjoy the sense of community here on TRF. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experience and making this place what it is
