Question on hands for the DJ II...

Anybody know for sure if the hands on these 2 DJ II's are the same size and interchangeable?

Not 100% sure about the fitment, but just curious what your plan is? Possibly add lumed hands to the diamond dial?

BTW, I am 99.9% sure that the hands are interchangeable.

Here are my thoughts - the shiny WG hands on the dark Rhodium diamond dial (and other dials as well) reflect light and at certain angles tend to "black out" making legibility sometimes an issue. This is less the case if the hands have even that thin line of lume going down the middle which doesn't reflect. Rolex will not swap out the hands as they say it will alter the original appearance of the watch. I'm certain those hands are the same size. Rolex just won't do the swap even though I think it would be an improvement. Not a big deal really of course but it just got me thinking about it. My rose gold DD has the same type of shiny non-lumed hands and it's pretty much a non-issue in the big scheme of things really.

I agree with you 100% regarding legibility. I was lucky in that my Slate Roman dial DJII came with lume hands from the factory (even though the only other lume on the dial is the marker at "9"). Perhaps you could get someone like Bob Ridley to order the lume hands for you and perform the install?

I don't know for certain. But I would imagine they are the same hands just different decoration.

Ok thanks. Not a big deal really - was just tossing around some thoughts in my idle time, which for me could lead to trouble...

I had similar thoughts about my ss DJ. Indeed, the wg hand is beautiful but often not legible under bright or low light condition. I even toyed about the idea of replacing it with yellow gold hand. AD won't do it and it probably will hurt resell too.

Yes I agree, plus if you ever had to send up to NY for service they would probably replace the hands with the correct ones and keep the others. Just leave it the way it is and forget about it. It's not important.

Hands fit on movements.. all DJ movements are the same, therefore, all DJ hands are interchangeable within movement eras..

Or you could put Sub hands on your DJ if you were so inclined..

However, as you have found out, Rolex only puts proper hands that go with certain dials on, and will not put non-proper hands on for you..

Yes thanks and I'm fine with that and agree with their line of thought. It's not a problem.
