UK Discount and UK VAT Retail Export Scheme

I've been offered 5% on a SS GMT, I'll also be able to claim back the 20% VAT as I'm not a UK resident.

What discounts are others getting on the GMT in the UK?

Has anyone used the UK VAT Retail Export Scheme and are there any issues?

Thanks in advance

1st point) it is not 20% discount.. Value Added Tax is 20%
I.E $5000 +20% = $6000
$6000- $1000= $5000 which is about a 16.5% discount
so add your 5% and its quite a good deal IMO
cheers

Bought a GMTIIc mid last year in London, claiming the VAT at Heathrow was simple & easy, you just need to produce the watch, funds credited to my cc. Discount sounds alright, at the time no London ADs had a sub C & only 2 had a GMTIIc (locked away & not on display) so I paid rrp - VAT or course, still $2k cheaper than Australia.

I guess the whole point of VAT refund is so you don't pay VAT twice, as you might be liable to pay import duties and VAT perhaps when you bring your watch back to your place of residence.
So whether or not it's a good deal depends on the VAT % in your own country as well.
But the 5% discount from the AD is better than nothing :)

Good luck on your purchase, it's a great timepiece.
