Ford

Ford gyron prototype from the early 60's, , would you have bought one rather have an e-type jag . any of you old fellas have one in the toy version ?

542-520x294.jpg

1160-520x339.jpg The Ford Gyron was a futuristic two-wheeled gyrocar first shown to the world in 1961 at the Detroit Motor Show as a concept car. One wheel was at the front and the other at the rear like a motorcycle and the car was stabilized by gyroscopes. The two occupants of the vehicle were seated side by side and, when the vehicle was stationary, two small legs appeared from the sides to support it. The vehicle was created for research and marketing purposes, with no intention to put it into production. love it with the roof down

I agree Ford nailed it w/ that body. Hopefully they include higher quality plastic on the interior though ;-)

It's better than the plastic GM gives you with the vette.

It can be equipped with Recaro seats. Can't get those in a vette either.

Ford really nailed it with the power train.

That is one stylish prototype for the early 1960's! All it needs a "blown" Ford block and it is a go.

That Ford Shelby GT500 is suppose to have 650 horse power and get up to 200 miles per hour(as seen in AutoWeek)and cost $50,000.00USD. I would prefer a Jaguar E-Type with a 12 cylinder engine. One of my very good friends who I have known since the beginning of high school in 1968 does E-Type restorations and own a 12 cylinder Jaguar E-Type himself. One of his spare cars is a 1985 or 1986 Jaguar XJ Series III Vanden Plas(sp.)Saloon with a V-8 that he drives in the spring through early fall before he puts it up for the winter. He can tear down a 12 cylinder and rebuild it asleep with one arm tied behind his back. He judges car shows and the dealerships come to him when they need work done on a customer's E-Type. Owners come to him in the spring and summer to have him work on and fix their Jags from all over the Midwest and they come from as far away as New York and Colorado. He is really one of the best wrenches in the USA when it comes to E-Types!!!

I was fortunate enough to have what I consider one of the top 3 "Ford sport cars" ever. In the late 80s to early 90s I enjoyed the sound of a 351 Windsor/Cleveland engine behind me matted to a very crisp ZF tranny! Yes a grey market Pantera. Havent scanned my old pictures, mine was white exterior with black interior. For all of you looking for a mid life toy, I cant recommend enough! Its a classic:

Load them pics up.

How does this compare to the Ford GT? That's a car I truly love.

Ford GT40 right? I have no idea, that to me is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. I have only seen them, never driven one. The Pantera was very "mechanic" if that makes any sense. I would imagine the new GT 40 to be refined and way more powerful! Nevertheless, the Pantera is a wonderful car for the price and it never dissappointed, I traded it for a 308 GTS quattrovalve and it was not eclipsed. But if I had the means, I would be at Barrett Jackson biddin on a Ford GT40.

The Ford Shelby GT500 is an absolute stunner, first time I've seen it.

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I seem to be in the minority here but, IMHO, to my eyes, the Ford Gyron from the first post, I'm sorry to say is one of the most hideous cars that I have ever seen.

Agreed that it is not that attractive, but the design has to be taken in the context of the "jet age". George Jetson, etc.

I've never seen it before; thanks for sharing the pics.

I think the coming electric version of the DeLorean would be cool. Not GREAT; just cool. 1.21 gigawatts, anyone??? delorean.com

Ford GT40's are over a million dollars! I believe you mean the Ford GT, which was the reincarnation of the original GT40. Ford GT's aren't cheap either, around $150,000 for a pre-owned.

Exactly, thats what I meant. My whole point on this is that if I was to buy a Ford powered car as a mid life equalizer I would consider the Pantera. I would love the Ford GT but like you said, they are about $150plus and hard to find. Finally, to answer the orig question: NO, I wouldn't. The Jag is and was a piece of art. People knock Lucas electronics but my mother bought a new E type (ivory exterior/red leather interior) and drove it in Detroit for many years thru cold and fair weather. No issues. The only regret is that she sold it. For the $5 to $7k I think she paid she would have had a great return today.
Btw do you ever come to the meetings at BMW Plano on the 1st Sat of the month. I see your avatar and can tell u r a car guy too.
