Differences in new 3186 movement ?
I am trying to understand exactly what changes have been made to the 3185 movement to get the phenominal accuracy in the 3186. It looks like there could be up to a 100% improvement. There have been early reports on this forum of the new GMT, with the 3186, gaining or losing a couple of seconds a week; some spot on, and others less than a second a day. I know there is a new parachrom main spring, but what other improvements have been made? Did they switch to Mobil 1 ?( just kidding, but actually maybe they have changed lubrication protocols). Have they changed gearing or machine parts? Would love to know. Thanks. JPM

The new GMT II mvt. Cal. 3186 has the Parachrom Bleu hairspring (other models that have it: The Daytona and the Milgauss).
That hairspring is virtually imperveous to temperature changes and magnetic influence and must be considered to be the main factor of the improved precision. Here is an article on the "parachrom bleu" hairspring: Parachrom bleu hairspring. CLICK! Here is another (more extensive!) article, with a NICE macro pic of the "parachrom bleu" hairspring: Parachrom bleu article/pics. CLICK! There is also pics of it on the rolex website (for example in connection with the Daytona pics): www.rolex.com

Great articles!!!!
Wonderful articles!!! I also wonder if anything else has been done to the 3185 to make it so accurate.
