New GMT arrived at AD today

Here's a quick & dirty cell phone pic of my son's birthday present, I must say that the watch is absolutely stunning, the case, trip-lock, the polished links, extra heft, bezel, clasp etc is all just so WOW!!, I had preferred the TT until this morning but what with the polished centre links it damn near is TT, I'm gonna want one now.

You guys will think I'm nuts, I was so "kid in candy-store" I didn't even check to see if it was a M series

Its back to RSC Bexley now to be engraved, should take about a week & I'll share some decent pics with you guys.

Cool!

I'm sure he'll treasure it always.

Chris, I just sent you a PM with some questions about engraving. I'm planning on giving my son an Explorer for his college graduation present in a couple of years and have some questions about engraving I hope you can answer.

Chris, for some reason the PM hasn't shown up in my inbox.

If you don't mind, could you just post the exchange here? The reason I sent the PM in the first place was I didn't know if you were comfortable talking about the engraving for some reason. I certainly don't mind sharing if you don't.

For the edification of others, I sent Chris a PM asking about his experience with engraving because I plan to give my son an engraved Explorer for his college graduation present. I asked Chris a) what's the turnaround time for having RSC engrave the watch; b) what's the limit on number of characters (I want to engrave my son's name, his college and class, and "Love, Mom & Dad" and am not sure all that will fit on a caseback) and c) what was the cost.

Thanks!

Chris,
I hate you and your damn watch!
Sorry, I get like that when others enjoy the buy-it-new-from-an-AD experience.
Great watch, wear it in good health.

Here's the PM for Downing, hope it may be of some interest

Hi Downing, good to hear from you.

The Explorer is a beautiful watch, I'm sure that your son will cherish it as the perfect graduation gift.

Here in the UK Rolex charge £1 a letter for engraving on all models, however they explained the new GMT has to have the ceramic bezel removed to enable it to be held in the vice/clamp to have the caseback unscrewed, this will be an extra £72.50 for the removal & refitting.

Coinciding with his birthday my son has just joined a fraternal society & he wants to have their emblem inscribed, luckily he works 10 minutes away from RSC Bexley & he's arranged to drop in a scan of the chosen design tomorrow lunchtime, then they'll happily engrave the emblem onto the watch, they say turnaround is approx 4 days.

Rolex say that they'll inscribe almost anything on the caseback & that sizing is not a problem, apparently under most circumstances your AD will have a catalogue of a selection of designs & fonts for you to chose from, your chosen font is then photocopied and sent with the watch to avoid any misunderstanding.

Hope this helps, please let us guys know how you get on.

Kind regards

Chris

Wow, I had no idea Rolex could do emblems. Hmm, yet something else to try to fit on a caseback.

Thanks for the info, Chris. Much appreciated. I'll keep you posted on my progress and please do the same.
