A question, oh Rolex gurus!
Have a line on an 18k YG President, Ref. No. 803, with diamond dial and bezel. Question: is the bezel an aftermarket bezel, or did Rolex make diamond bezels in this model, which is a non quick set, and I think dates to late 1960s...?
Also, is $3200 too much just for the watch head, no bracelet..in good condition and working well..? Thanks for what I know will be astute answers! |

IMO price is high. You might do better posting in vintage section. Good luck. It is a cool watch. Sorry I can't answer your questions.

Not at that price
Quote:
At that price I reckon, you will never get Rolex factory-original bezel with diamonds. Rolex will always use top quality diamonds, more than likely Wesselton, for their watches. From the blurry pix, it can be deduced, the bezel is after-market. |

Both dial and bezel are aftermarket.
I also don't like the crystal Original dial 300 to 400 Original bezel 300 to 400 New Plexi 100. So count in 1K , from this point you'll have other options. Ask Greekbum (Nick Gogas) he has incoming 1803 and 18038 through out the year and is a respectable guy. Jack

Aftermarket ones, floating around
Not only that, the price of a Rolex watch with factory-original diamonds (dial or bezel) is mighty expensive and not many can afford such a luxury. As a result of which, there are many aftermarket ones, floating around. |

Many of the Non-Quickset Dials with diamonds are original except for the diamonds themselves. The diamonds were usually added by a jeweler per customer request. I've seen so many non-quickset dial conversations and I have yet to see one I like.
The diamond bezel on this is aftermarket. My understanding is the non-quickset Day Dates did not come with diamond bezels from the factory but added afterwards. You can always have it removed, add a nice 18K fluted bezel and change to a correct crystal to make it look better than it does now. The Non-quickset Day Dates look classier without diamonds and on a high quality leather strap.

Actually the ref # is 1803 your missing a digit and the dial and bezel are most likely aftermarket. Scrap value in gold is around 1200 dollars so 2000 grand for am parts and movement kinda steep. IMO Rikki
