Buying from the Forum experiences ?
So ummm I am looking to buy a couple watches to add to my collection and as I am scanning through the for sale section I notice a solid gold DD for less then $10k which got me thinking maybe I should ask for a few reputable names people have done bizz with (not saying the DD was fake at all) because I have gotten smoking deals from people in jams before or just wanting to upgrade ect.. I understand that there is a certain amount of chance with buying Rolex in general now a days but would like to limit that % by asking. So is there a way to look at previous sales from members and or a rating system in place for those members who have helped other members acquire or sold them watches ?

If he's buying and willing to wire funds, references are probably not an issue.

Participation on the forum will go a long way to build confidence in both buyers and sellers. TRF is not a watch buying/ selling vehicle for general web traffic. Rather, it's one of the many benefits afforded to members in good standing.
My experiences, both selling and buying, have all been positive. dP

I have personally done business with Tony (JustRolexes) and say without a doubt, you will NOT go wrong dealing with him, a professional and class act all the way. I have heard nothing but the same kind of comments about the other sellers on here, DavidSW, Greg (Mosco), and seveal others.

My friend tried to trade in his older yg dd, and they offered him (at torneau) only 5500 for it. He declined and is now looking for 9. so, I think it certainly is possible to find DD for under 10k.

x2 Got mine from DavidSW and it was one of the easiest things I have done, great guy to deal with! Plenty of different options to pay. Keept in contact until the watch was received and made sure it was as described and I was happy. Also was in contact with Oscar (bodybump) and Tony (justrolexes) and both were beyond what i thought i would get from a seller. Just as with David, you ask a question and it is answered within minutes, if not then a very timely manner, no waiting for days. Very respectful, gave me plenty of knowledge, no hard sell at all. Class acts all the way. True professionals and much easier than dealing with sales people at an AD (at least the ones I visited) and 10* the knowledge as well. Furthest thing from a used car salesman you can get. As stated check out the Buyers/Sellers "Who's Who" ?!?! and there you will find everything you need to know on any sellers. One side note, Just because someone is not one of the "trusted sellers" does not mean you shouldn't deal with them. As stated being able to buy watches on this forum is just one of the many benifits and most of the members on here are good people and sometimes have the "bug" and just want to flip their watch for another one. They may not sell enough to be considered a "trusted seller" but that does not mean the watch is not authentic or they can't complete the transaction in a professional manner. These are the ones that will have to sell their watches for less $$ because they are not "trusted" and can't and shouldn't expect to be able to get the same price as a "trusted seller" can for the same exact piece. For the same price people will deal with David, Oscar, Tony, Greg, ect.....all day. This is most likely the case if you see a gold dd on here listed for less than 10k. There is a good chance the seller just does not have enough "street cred" to charge the going rate. Either that or the going rate for it is not what you think it is. Another thing I have noticed is the mods on here are great, along with all the members who have great knowledge and if someone is trying to squeek by a fake on the for sale section, they catch it and remove it very quickly. So there is a smaller chance of a fake being sold on this forum as opposed to somewhere else. Use your best judgement and the best advice I received is to buy the seller. Don't buy unless you are comfortable with them |

I have had numerous deals with Tony (Justrolexes) Oscar (Bodybump) and David (DavidSW) and they are all men of integrity and impeccable character... I would recommend them all, buy with confidence!

The forum per say does not get involved with buying / selling / trading. Each buyer and seller must do their own due diligence. That being said, there are trusted sellers with impeccable reputations, but in the end the buck stops with you.
Good Luck.

I love this forum, all great answers. Thanks everyone !!! I went to a Rolex and Patek Philippe AD today and picked some brains on a few different brands. I think i am gonna stick around the forum and look for deals over the next few months while reading as much as I can find on collector pieces. Good to know I can ask questions here and not have to deal with juvi jokes ect... Thanks again
