Trade Advice

Looking for opinions. I have a d serial Sub nd. Great watch but I am missing the date a bit. Thinking of trading to a NIB F serial Datejust 16200. My watch and $50. Am I nuts?

Hey, the Sub is not for everybody.

If you think it's a good deal, then it's a good deal..

Here's some thoughts:
DJ's and Subs are about the same when new (slightly less for the ND) - so technically the Sub is newer than the DJ (NIB is irrelevent once you put it on).

Subs tend to hold their value better, so a Sub of the same age would be worth more than a DJ of the same age.

Worth, or value is subjective.. It is always dependent on what a willing buyer will give a willing seller for the product.

Having a watch on your wrist that is comfortable in your surroundings and with your peers, is worth more than one in a box in the dresser drawer.

Sounds like a much better deal than an AD would offer.

But wouldn't you miss that classic beauty after a while? My dictum: NEVER let go of a great Rolex watch. Just buy. Don't sell... Larry.

I agree with all the posts, I would add the feeling of a sub is much different than that of a DJ. Be positive that the change will not drive you nuts. I can't wear my DJ like I used to as a SD or a LV Sub is always on my wrist. The DJ just feels too light to me.

Why not look for a Sub with date, if possible to find one in the same price range give or take?
I would stick with the Sub.

If you wanna trade it trade it follow your insticts and decide what's the best for you. The watch that you wear must always make you happy that's the most important thing

Many members have offered you great advice.

Its your watch and you should be happy with what you wear. In my opinion, that seems like a fair trade. I personally would say hold on the Sub because it is such a legendary watch but I understand how you would miss the date with that model.

Have you considered the SS Sub with Date as well?

HELPFUL ADVICE:

With the Sub ND, there is actually a neat little trick you can do with the bezel to remember the date. You know how it has a 60 second time lapse bezel right? Well you can use that to remember the date as well. For example, if it is the 28th of the month like today, advance the bezel so that it would read 28 at the top. Then as each day passes by, just click the bezel over to the next number. Then when it becomes a new month, click the bezel all the way back to where it would read 1. Is this clear to you?

Thanks Velitsko, there was a whole thread on here a while back describing that whole idea. So you can basically take a Sub No Date and still have a "date" on it. Its really neat.

Completely different feel, look and impression between the two. I like the SUB over the DJ simply because I could wear it with everything I do, from outdoors and underwater stuff to black-tie affairs.

I personally think that you would always regret letting go of the SUB for a DJ, unless you replace the SUB ND with a SUB date, and then the DJ becomes a nice dress watch.

However, as others have said, it's a totally personal decision, so do what makes you feel good. The key question you'll need to answer to yourself is how will you feel and what will you think in three months when you look down and see the DJ instead of the SUB ND on your wrist? Everything else is secondary and even tertiary to that.

Best of luck and let us know how things turn out.

James

It sounds like a good deal, besides how many people actually spend a majority of their time below 300 feet of water anyway.

Thanks everyone. cool trick on the ND. Thanks for the tip. I think I might regret trading the sub. Perhaps I'll keep an eye out for a good deal on a vintage DJ and make that move and add to the collection. The point was made and I have expeirenced it too that I have regreted most trades I have made!

Thanks again

Jim

That’s OK until you need to use the time elapse bezel. I use my bezel on my Seiko several times a day every day. My potential new SD will be used in the same way

Seems like a fair deal.
Where else would you sell it?
