Most affordable way to a Perpetual Calendar
Hi All,
I have a desire for a Perpetual Calendar but my budget won't let me anywhere near to a PP or an ALS. My current favourite is a Glashutte Original Senator 100-02-13-02-04 Could any of you guys point me at other good options that I should consider. Thanks, Peter. |

Since you said most affordable though know you won't be considering these:), just saw someone writeup about a Chinese company called Seagull that's been around since 1955 and which bought the manufacturing rights for some of the tri compax movements for the Chinese market decades ago (read that somewhere though not sure), here's one with exhibition caseback.
http://www.seagullwatch.eu/chrono/M199S.php Another Chinese company here http://www.perpetual-watch.com/chronograph.html http://forums.watchuseek.com/f72/per...se-578891.html In higher end Swiss watches, the JLC Master Calendar that was mentioned in the other thread, in a different category and price from the above, is reasonably priced compared to the higher end offerings from PP,etc. Glashutte is supposed to be good value too. All depends what budget you are targeting at. EDIT: The Chinese one doesn't look like is a perpetual calendar.

Thanks for your interest.
My budget will be in the region of 15K (UKP) that will convert to about 18K(USD) which will include tax. I want to spend as little as possible but have a watch that will impress a wath enthusiast. Peter |

I was looking at those Chinese watches Cruvon posted up....aren't perpetual calendars day date and month so they "never" need a date change? If I'm wrong proper education is most welcome.

I love watches, always have. That is why I am considering buying this watch. It is hard to imagine the complexity and ingenuity to takes to design and build a Perpetual Calendar, a piece of machinery that in theory only needs to be adjusted once a century. Peter |

Keep in mind the most affordable is not always the best choice
Do not sacrafice quality for price. Also keep resale value in mind.

That's a decent budget, if I were you I would save/allocate more and look for an offering which you can't go wrong with, esp come time for a resale. If you buy from overseas think it's tax free too. Do you need a moonphase too in it or just a perpetual calendar?

that's correct, I realized the Chinese ones are more like the functionality on the vintage ones since they are based on those movements, so they need to be adjusted for leap year, etc. Would have thought they would have figured how to make perpetuals too esp since they already have tourbillons figured out:), which I would think are more complex. See these commemorative Chinese sourced tourbillons the well respected British Horological Society is offering for less than 500 pounds Quote:

IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar 3762 (Stainless Steel Limited Edition version) Zenith Chronomaster GT Chronograph 03.1240.4001 (not sure is is perpetual) Jaquet Droz Les Lunes Rehaut Complete Calendar, Reference: J012624203 Jaquet Droz Les Lunes Rehaut Complete Calendar, Reference: J012624203 Breguet 3330BA, Classique, Reference 3330BA/11/286 Blancpain 3563 Triple Date, Half Hunter Complete Calendar, Reference: 3563A-3642, IWC Portofino Hand-Wound IW544804 also an explantion on Perpetual Calendars by IWC for the IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar 3762 Quote:

This watch is simply stunning but I'm afraid it's an annual calendar.

The AT is an Annual, not a Perpetual Calendar.
