Patina or 'Wabi' on SubC??????

....Do you think that the current SubC will develop any patina at all, as the cremecolored index's ar faded inserts on previous models?

In guess everything will age but any obvious 'wabi' or patina effects that you can think of that might be possible? or is it 'futureproof'

Well first its normally the Tritium type dial develop any patina some years better than others. Now luminover first came out in the Rolex line up around 1998 and myself have not seen any luminover dial with any patina but who knows in 50 years time but its doubtful.

I think the Wabi on these new generation Rolex divers will be uneven...something I'm not sure I'd like. Case and dial will show some effects of age and use (scratches, dings, possible luminova color change)...bezel (assuming no chips or cracking due to a hard knock at some point along the way) will look as glossy as the day it was born.

It's said that it's not supposed to, but as padi said time will tell.

Wabi or the full name 'Wabi-Sabi' is similar to Patina and is often used among watch collectors...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wabi-sabi

It basically means that something have become more beatuiful even though it might be cracked, discoulored etc...

My understanding is these new Rolex watches are suppose to look the same forever minus scratches and dings the owners put on them. Even the insert should stay the same. No character IMO :(

I never get tired of how we WIS moon over our watches fading, cracking and developing "patina" or wabi.

Can you imagine a car collector going potty over the paint job on his '57 Chevy peeling, his dashboard cracking or his chrome bumpers rusting??

:-)

That is truth, according to what I have read. It is a lot more than this but that's the essence. So, when you get the patiina, scratch, dent, or other on the watch, appreciate and smile. That is Wabi-sabi

I like Wabi on my sushi. But, yeah Rolex did their homework trying to make their watches last longer and longer without aging effects. Time will tell.

Luminova won't wabi, at least not in our lifetime. And as others have said, there's something about the patina and wabi tritium and aluminum develop on these old Rolexes that I don't think we'll see with the new ceramic models.
