Will Rolex ever go back to domed crystals?
Hi there -
New member here. I've been looking at getting my first Rolex after owning Omegas, Sinns, etc. One thing that I have learned about my watch tastes is that I really love domed crystals (I like that I don't feel like I'm carrying a little mirror in my wrist). I'm attracted to the versatility and durability of Rolex, but think my pet-peeve will drive me nuts. I used to own a Longines with a flat crystal a few years ago - before I knew better - with no AR and I did not like it at all. My question is, are there members here who felt just as negatively as I feel about flat crystals, especially those without any AR coating, but went ahead with buying a Rolex and remain happy with it? This is the reason why I would consider a white Exp II, because I think this is the one where probably this will bother me the least! Thanks! |

I think the Tudor Black Bay has a domed crystal.

DSSD is a current production model with a domed crystal.

Does not seem likely. I wish someone would make after market dome crystals.

yes
Although it probably isn't technically a dome, the new Deep Sea Challenge to be used on the James Cameron Expedition looks like a top hat crystal. Lots of crystal above the bezel.
In my opinion, it changes the Deepsea in a big (and very good) way. greg in denver |

Yes, I understand that Rolexes are wildly popular and that people most likely are fine with the flat crystal. It is just my taste that is against them.
I was just wondering if people with similar distaste had taken the plunge anyway and be become converts. Also, why no AR coating under the crystals for Rolexes. PS: the DSSD is just too heavy and large for me for an everyday watch. |

I meant:
Since Rolex did not fit the Sub-C with a dome crystal (or a dome crystal replacement option as they did in the old days), I wish someone would make a dome crystal that would fit the new models: Sub-C, GMT-IIC, etc. |
