Will Rolex ever go back to domed crystals?

Hi there -

New member here. I've been looking at getting my first Rolex after owning Omegas, Sinns, etc.

One thing that I have learned about my watch tastes is that I really love domed crystals (I like that I don't feel like I'm carrying a little mirror in my wrist). I'm attracted to the versatility and durability of Rolex, but think my pet-peeve will drive me nuts. I used to own a Longines with a flat crystal a few years ago - before I knew better - with no AR and I did not like it at all.

My question is, are there members here who felt just as negatively as I feel about flat crystals, especially those without any AR coating, but went ahead with buying a Rolex and remain happy with it?

This is the reason why I would consider a white Exp II, because I think this is the one where probably this will bother me the least!

Thanks!

Well the DSSD and some Tudor models has a slightly domed crystal but there are countless millions of Rolex watches in this world today without AR and flat crystals. And today Rolex outsells most high end brands so there customers must be quite happy with flat non AR crystals, later Rolex models have AR coating under the cyclops.

DSSD is a current production model with a domed crystal.

Does not seem likely. I wish someone would make after market dome crystals.

yes

Although it probably isn't technically a dome, the new Deep Sea Challenge to be used on the James Cameron Expedition looks like a top hat crystal. Lots of crystal above the bezel.

In my opinion, it changes the Deepsea in a big (and very good) way.

Yes, I understand that Rolexes are wildly popular and that people most likely are fine with the flat crystal. It is just my taste that is against them.

I was just wondering if people with similar distaste had taken the plunge anyway and be become converts.

Also, why no AR coating under the crystals for Rolexes.

PS: the DSSD is just too heavy and large for me for an everyday watch.

I meant:

Since Rolex did not fit the Sub-C with a dome crystal (or a dome crystal replacement option as they did in the old days), I wish someone would make a dome crystal that would fit the new models: Sub-C, GMT-IIC, etc.
