Bought first used watch, opinions please

Today i purchased my wife an anniversary gift. I got her a two tone ladies date just, used. There had 2 sized of this same watch, this was the larger of the two which i am assuming is a mid size watch. It appears to have a very thick crystal which protrudes a significant amount more than my ceramic submariners crystal. Also it appears to have been polished quite alot as the crown on the clasp is worn, and you can see brush marks on the body slightly.
Overall what would you say the value of this watch is? I simply ask because i want to know if i overpaid, i seem to be having difficulty finding much info about these ladies watches. I paid 3500 for it.

Any idea how old the watch might be? How would i find out?

My apologies for the blurry second picture, i took that picture many times and ti came out blurry each time it seems. The clasp is worn enough to where the little bubbles at the tips of the crown points are not visible anymore.

My mother has a watch that looks exactly like that. Same clasp. She did have an aftermarket diamond bezel added but we just pop the original back on for service. Hers was purchased for my sisters birth in 1986. I'm not sure what the years that model was made. I don't think her crystal sticks up though.

How do i tell if it is sapphire or arcylic crystal? Excuse my ignorance of knowing what the difference is. I am thinking acrylic because of the thickness, As far as the serial number i am not sure. I am told on these it is inside the case.

My experience with ladies Date Just is this: Champagne dial two tone Jubilee bracelet wholesale in the 2K range. With box and papers maybe $2300 but so much depends on the condition of the piece. If you piad $3500 in a retail setting and got a full set (double box links papers) and it has been serviced and YOU like it be happy. Might I suggest you reserve a table (the perfect table) dress nice and make a really special night of it. Nothing like presenting your wife with a Rolex while having an awesome dinner.

Just tap on the crystal you can tell if it is plastic or glass. The serial number would be between the lugs, unless you have all the paperwork and tags. The serial would help us date it for you. Also does it say "swiss" at the bottom of the dial or " T Swiss T"?

Looks nice. Won't talk price since too little info thus far.
The main thing about a watch as a gift is how she likes it. Will the seller accept a return if she wants a different model - I learned by experience because my wife didn't like the date on her Rolex and we made a switch with the jeweler.

I think its is acrylic after tapping on the dial and comparing to my submariner. It says T swissmade T. Wife picked it out and she likes it, so i am keeping it, just wanted to know more about its value and age.

Also as far as a serial number, one lug has a J and other has a 487.

If you can, remove the 6 o'clock side of the bracelet and you will find the serial number. With that, a simple google search will show you what year the watch was manufactured.

Perhaps taking it to a Rolex AD to do an authenticity check and appraisal would be good idea? You'll need it for insurance purposes anyway.

You'd get a better idea from an expert who can look at it. Even TRF experts would have to hazard guesses with limited info.

Not sure about the value but I think your wife will love it! Also as long as you are happy with it, it is done and purchased so I would not worry to much about it

You already bought it, don't bother to know about the price.

Don't drive yourself nuts. You did fine. She will love it!
A nice dinner and some wine would be in order...

Best way to find out how old would be either to post close up pics or just take it to a dealer nearby and have them date it.

since your wife picked it out and she likes it, that's all there is to the matter. no need to worry over how old it is or whether it's been over-polished. the goal is to make her happy and she is. goal achieved!

Look, a new one is more than twice the price. However, when used, you must know the year to assess value. Newer model DJs are more valuable because sapphire is regarded as superior and quickset dates are a must. Likely, 2500 is a better DMV of a watch like this assuming it's from the early 90s. If it has Box n papers and has been rolex serviced , the value goes up. You have to do your diligence prior to the sale!
