Market Value For Navitimer II?

Hey all.

Looking at a 10 year old full steel Navitimer II. Both boxes, all papers including warranty. Leather deployment strap. Never serviced. I haven't been able to find comparables on eBay completed auctions.

Seller wants $3000, I offered $2000. Considering Breitling service is $550 plus tax, and the current leather strap is stained, and has loose stitching, I'm looking at another $300 for a new strap.

Is my offer too low? Seller thinks so, but factoring in servicing, and new leather I think it's a fair offer.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

thats pretty low, the 3k is quite fair.

Probably somewhere in the $2500-$2800 would be fair.

It would probably have cost him less than that new. I got my Navi II in 1998 (OK a bit earlier) brand new for 850 GB pounds / $US1,300

Good point, Tempusfugitus. In the early 2000's one could be bought around here for about $2800 after discounts and taxes.

I've seen the metal bracelet models selling for that, but I have a hard time seeing a leather strap going for that much.

I guess I've been out for the Breitling loop too long. I didn't realize that was the FMV for these, but that seems to be the consensus.

I think you are spot on, a service is a must and a strap too, maybe $2,250 tops.

I have found through 1st hand experience that Breitling's are worth much less pre-loved than Rolex's. I had a beautiful Navitimer Heritage on a bracelet with all boxes, papers, manuals and a 90 day old full service to the tune of $650 from Breitling.

I sold that watch for 25% less than what I was asking, it was mint. I started at $3,995 and got $3,000 about 45 days later after multiple TRF and Breitlingsource listings.

The sellers watch is not worth what he thinks it is.

I think the deal might be a bust. The seller wrote me saying that these are selling for $5500 plus tax. I replied that he can't compare a decade old, unserviced watch with a val 7750 to a new Navitimer. He got pissy, and told me to go do something with myself that's physically impossible.

A shame about your Navitimer Heritage. When those first came out I was looking at them, but the price was beyond my means.

I guess I'll have to keep looking. What I really want is the original Navitimer II that came out in '88, or '89 with the white hands. The last one that came up on eBay was pulled before the listing ended. I had two of these back in the day--one with indice hour markers, and the other with Arabic numbers, but sold them.

Made until 2002 and as early as 1993, I would spend some time on BreitlingSource and E-bay looking at pricing with leather straps. I don't often see pieces with documented service, so I think you can get a grasp once you see some listings.

Don't confuse asking with selling prices, I can recall seeing Navi II's for sale forever on flea-bay. I personally think with a good leather strap w/deployment clasp on a well running watch is worth about $2,500 IMHO....There is one over there now for $2,800 with a shark skin strap and there's no interest.

A watch like that, although great, is just not worth very much to the general public. Sure, there are guys like us, but that's not enough to really create a solid market for re-sale IMO.

I think the production dates might be off. I have a catalogue from 1989 showing the Old Navitimer II in various metals, and strap/bracelet options.

From what I understand, the ONII was never one of their popular items. It was usually overshadowed by the Chronomat for obvious reasons. And Of course the Cosmonaut which was ignored by a lot of people, is massively popular amongst collectors today.

Yes, Old Navitimer II (with the date at 3pm) is definitely eclipsed by the newer Navitimers, which have the more balanced tri-compax layout for the subdials and the date at 4:30pm and automatic (rather than manual wind) movement.
