Rolex Box Set

Hey folks...new here, watch collector. Just bought a circa 90's Datejust to give to my brother and I need to purchase a box set for it. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated on the color of the original box. I want to purchase this and need to know where from? I have a week before it finishes being overhauled and made great again!!! I think its a maroon/brownish type box and can't find it anywhere. I need help. I was considering buying a newer green type box instead, but want an authentic boxset. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know where you can get one. Maybe the classifieds on here or eBay. You could go to some ADs but i doubt they would give/sell you one unless you have a standing relationship with them. That said a box is just that. A box. IMHO it would be a waste of $$$ to spend more than $100 on a box. Many good cases out there to put the watch in to give as a gift. Honestly to me the box and papers mean noting on a watch over 2 years old. The watch is the important thing. Any specific reason you need a box? Is it just to put it in so you can gift it to your brother? Great gift and lucky brother.

If Rolex used good boxes like AP or PP it would be different but their boxes are pretty cheap and don't look that great. The demand is higher because some buy them trying to make a replica look like a real watch.

hey

yeah, just want an authentic box for the thing. In case something ever happened and he needed to sell it or something. I know, shouldn't matter that much to people who know, but there are the dumb-asses out there. And quite frankly, he should never have to sell it. Anyways, thanks man. And yes, lucky guy...best brother a guy could ask for. Thanks again.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I agree with Gunter that IMHO it would be a waist of money to purchase as a box for this watch. When all is said a done it is just a box. I would suggest purchasing a travel box and gift him the watch in it. A great travel box that I have as well as many on this forum is the Oakley Vault for watches. This is a great travel box and looks great. You can find them for about $20.00 on Ebay and Amazon Good luck and your brother is very luck to have a sibling like you. Hope this helps.

agree with both posters, why pay $50-100 for something that will sit in a draw

I understand. When it comes to the second hand market some do prefer a complete set but most true watch lovers will buy the watch first and foremost. Many on here don't care about TE box but if it makes you happy good luck with the search. Don't pay too much. Many out there will try to rip you off for a box. There are plenty 1990's boxes on eBay for around $100. Not sure if they are authentic bit they look it.

Go to the Vintage Rolex Market VRM and post your watch model and first serials to date the watch so they can offer you the correct box and catalogs...
Of course you will not get the papers with anyone...

Buying parts that did not come with the watch originally is not what collectors are looking for.. They are looking for original sets. That's why those prices are high.. anybody can cobble together a "set"..

Usually Qualitytime.net (J. Broznik) has a selection of authentic boxes from the different years..

I really think buying a box set for this watch is just a waist of good money.

Here is a photo of the mid-1990's box. This box was also used with the DateJust and they cost around $150 on the secondary market.

If you need help sourcing one, send me a PM.

I wouldn't say it is a waste of money. The box from the 90's are made of wood and they are very nice. I would much prefer the old Rolex wood box than the new leather and suede box.

Only because today's Internet has made these bits of packaging and mostly out of date warranty bits of paper as or more important that the actual watch.

Couldn't agree more. When a watch, or anything becomes collectable, the more original it is with all its original parts and accessories, the more value it adds to the item. Some people are content collecting the watch, many others are content to have all the original accessories. Personally, I tend to collect complete sets as much as possible when buying Rolexes and it has paid the extra dividends when it came time to sell. The internet has helped make collecting more accessible and fun putting collections together.
