Least Expensive Panerai Pam

Hi Guys, Im new to the Panerai world and is a bit confused with their model line up and pricing. Based on my understanding, the least expensive Panerai Pam would be the PAM 000. Is this correct? This is the base model correct? Its hard to tell which model is which because they all look the same to me. I am interested in owning a PAM and will buy perhaps the least expensive one to try it out if it clings to me like Rolex and Jaeger does.

Thanks for all your help in advance and your comments are appreciated.

Luminor Series - PAM000
Radiomir Series - PAM380

Both of these are the Logo ones with no clearcase back!

I dont think its wise to try a brand from their cheapest. Enjoy your hunt, look around, browse around. A lot of information sources will shape up your preference and taste in panerai. This forum is one of them.

If in the end your choice is still the 000, then go for it. Knowing it suits your taste not just because its the cheapest.

Some of the key term that you will find in panerai world will be :
Luminor
Radiomir
Historic case
1950 case
Sandwich dial
Sausage dial
Pvd
Brushed case
Polished case
Manual movement
Auto movement
ETA movement
And lots more..

Welcome to the dark side. Enjoy your stay here..

The good thing about the least expensive Pams is that they also rank amongst many of us as must-haves in any collection, the 000 in particular. So, getting a 000 doesn't mean you get a lesser pam, it means you get a classic beauty.

just to add, i'm not 100% certain that's the best route....i mean, let's say you were going to give rolex a try, would you necessarily limit yourself to oyster perpetual and air king models? not that there's anything wrong with those two, just that it pays in the long-run to find the model you like best.

if you're worried most about flipper tax, i'd still look to get the model you like most, but, get it pre-owned to keep the loss to a minimum.

Well Actually I tried that with Rolex too. I started with a Date... Then my dad gave me an Explorer II. Then I bought an Explorer II. A sub, A DateJust, A GMTIIC, A SUB... etc... I want to see if it would grow on me... No Offense I know you guys hate this but I really cant tell much the difference with PAMs... They all look the same to me with a little tweak here and there.

I say the same thing about modern Rolex....they all look the same.

I'd recommend a 000 or 112 or 210. I love the bases (two handers), but three handers are great too!

Top left is 210 (with aftermarket hands) then clockwise, 190, 390, 111G

If you buy a used 000/112/210, you won't lose much at all (if any).

I would buy a second hand 111, IMO the best of the base models and can be had for around 4k...

im now interested at a 112... Im still trying to learn more about the brand. Its much more realistic for me right now instead of a Jaeger.

A sausage dial has painted numerics on the dial, vs. a sandwich dial in which the numerics are cut out from the dial and a layer of lume is underneath.

Id go for the 000 myself, or find a 2C or D...

These have solid case backs and painted dials.

If you like the sandwich dial, go for 111 or 112, these have exhibition backs.

now if you want Painted dials with exhibition backs you are looking at 111/112 E-G. After G they started going with Sandwich.

Painted dials are a bit warmer, but the sandwich dial does add some cool depth to the watch. Personally I only like Sandwich dials on the more complicated Pams and enjoy the painted dials on the base luminors. Hope that helps!
