Rolex watch cases

hI GUYS, DID ANYONE KNOW WHEN ROLEX STARTING TO USE 904L STAINLESS STEEL TO MADE THEIR WATCH CASES? I HAVE A YEAR 1990 AIR KING, REF 14000 A 22 YEARS OLD WATCH, BUT I NOT SURE WHAT KIND OF STAINLESS STEEL IS USING. ANY COMMENT?

It was around 1987 with the 168000 sub 904L was introduced and most watches followed soon after.But there is nothing magical about 904L,the main difference between 316L over 904L it has slightly more Molybdenum(Mo)approx 2% more approx 1-2% more Crome(Cr) 1% copper(Cu) and approx 10% more nickel and thats it.And in many ways the 316L can be better than 904L being a slightly softer steel it scratches slightly more than the 316L.
