Missing a digit of the serial number
Is it all right to buy a vintage Rolex watch (DD in white gold) with the serial number, between a pair of lugs, missing the first digit - ? XXX XXX.
The missing digit is caused by a depression. If ever the watch is to be sent to RSC for a service, will they take it in? |

I would not buy any Rolex with a missing serial. It's an issue. I sent an 1803 I had a while back, Rolex wanted to replace the case!
Best of luck.

As far as buying the watch; if you are satisfied it is authentic, its not that hard to identify the first digit and establish your serial # by studying the model # and what years it was manufactured. The experts here will be of great assistance with that.

I'm sure that's what the op was asking: would they take it in to service or refuse it.
