Advice Needed: Omega Ploprof 1200M needs service

Sad to find that my Omega Ploprof 1200M which just passed the warranty period by a few months will need service. When adjusting the hour hand to change the date, it feels loose and does not reach the next hour in a definitive manner. Also, when changing the minute hands the hour hand would change correctly until reaching the 9 o'clock then the hour hand would get stuck. Anyone knows what might be wrong? Also, do you recommend omega service center or prefers a local watch shop in Houston, Texas? Also, any insight into what this would probably cost would help as well. I'm thinking about bringing it to the Omega boutique here in Houston but wanted to reach out to my fellow TRFers before doing so. Any advice or things for me to consider will be much appreaciated. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

I would not send it off to Omega service but would recommend Nesbit's in Seattle.

As to what it might cost, I do not know but upon opening and before doing any work, they will give you a quote. Nesbit's was an Omega service center before Omega went "in house".

I don't know of the service centers near you but if tour boutique has an in store service center they might be able to address any minor issues on site. The nyc boutique took care of a loose hammer that occured on a speedmaster of mine next day and no charge. It might be a minor fix or something more serious but only opening it can tell. Good luck!

OP, how old is the watch

If it was only a few years old, I would contact Omega and see if they will take a look at it since the warranty just ran out. With all the progress they are trying to make into the premium market, maybe they'll hook you up....

Bought the watch from an authorized dealer on 10/16/2009 and the warranty card is dated the same. Does omega have a two or three warranty?

Found my answer from the Owners manual....Looks like its still uner warranty..

(Valid for U.S.A. only)
Your OMEGA® watch is warranted by OMEGA SA* FOR A PERIOD OF TWENTY-FOUR (24) MONTHS, THIRTY-SIX (36) MONTHS FOR WATCHES WITH A CO-AXIAL ESCAPEMENT AND FORTY-EIGHT (48) MONTHS FOR WATCHES WITH A CO-AXIAL ESCAPEMENT AND SI14 BALANCE SPRING , AS WELL AS FOR WATCHES WITH THE CALIBER 8500 OR 8501, FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE under the terms and conditions of this warranty. The international OMEGA warranty covers material and manufacturing defects existing at the time of delivery of the purchased OMEGA watch (“defects”). The warranty only comes into force if the warranty certificate is dated, fully and correctly completed and stamped by an official OMEGA** dealer (“valid warranty certificate”).
During the warranty period and by presenting the valid warranty certificate, you will have the right to have any defect repaired free of charge. In the event that repairs are unable to restore the normal conditions of use of your OMEGA watch, OMEGASA guarantees its replacement by an OMEGA watch of identical or similar charateristics. The warranty for the replacement watch ends twenty-four (24) months, thirty-six (36) months for watches with a co-axial escapement, forty-eight (48) months for watches with a co-axial escapement and SI14 balance spring , as well as for watches with the caliber 8500 or 8501, after the date of purchase of the replaced watch.

I tell you what, the boutiques have been known to fix issues even when past the warranty period. Especially if the original owner. If there is a boutique by you, bring it in and speak to a manager. You may be surprised.

Fr. John, thanks for the advice and I really was about to go that route if it was not under warranty. Great to know that Nesbit's in Seattle is the place to go for after warranty service. Thanks everyone for your advice and showing me the TRF love!

Glad it worked out. I for one am really pleased and impressed with Omega's 4 years warranty on the Cal 8500/8501 watches.
