Open sixes and nines

I just realized I have them on my '86 DJ. I see many celebratory posts about open sixes and nines. Are they rare, more desirable, or uncommon?

When did they stop being open?

In a short answer, no. Rolex change fonts regularly and it doesn't really increase the value of the watch.

It is pretty cool looking though and on watches like 1675's and 1680's it would add some value to the watch compared with a watch that has had the date wheel replaced.

I prefer the classic 6 & 9 fonts.

Would you guys say that on the older watches having a silver datewheel is more important for value then the font style while on something like a 16800 it is more important to have the open 6 and 9's?
