243 is an amazing watch. But you can't go wrong with either.

Tough choice. I'd probably go with the 305....not a fan of the cyclops.

Hiya, I was lucky enough to receive a ten year present from work late last year and had exactly the same issue. I went with the 243 and have no regrets at all. My process went:
1) Size - personally I find 47mm just very slightly too big. I'm a big chap, but I just think it's a touch over the top. 2) Weight - the big one for me - I have a 351 which I dearly love, but am always feel a bit cheated by th eweight of a Ti. For me, I want an engineered block of steel which says 'I'm here' to me (and me alone) when I'm wearing it. 3) The port-hole effect of the 243's larger/deeper bezel and therefore impression of smaller face works for me and hightens the 'tool' look. I think the 305 is rather flat and sparse in comparison. 4) The back - not really a significant part of my thought process, but I do find the display back on a diver a bit silly! 5) Arab numerals - I like both sets of markers, but again for me, prefer the Arabic. 6) Again not a key point, but I'd like to get a Bronzo and so I thought that two of essentially the same model (I know that's a push) would be a waste - although that's still some way off! 7) The negative - and the only reason I was concerned about the 243, was the cyclops. Does it bother me now I have it on my wrist - no, would I remove it if I could - yes! I posted exactly this thread and was lucky to get loads of great TRF pics - it was close, but for me the weight was the big deal breaker/maker and I LOVE my choice. A small point - it was actually reasonably tough to get hold of a 243 in the end as I wanted a new piece and struggled to find anyone with it in stock. So you may find that a 305 is considerably easier to get hold of. Let's be honest - either of them would be brilliant. I will try and get some pics together but if you search on threads I've started, there are a load under it! |

the only thing i can say is go with whichever feels better on the wrist. both have quite a bit of merit.

305 all day. 243 is nice but a bit "top heavy" and face is kinda small.

I had the 243, it was my first Panerai. I wasn't a keeper in my book. It just didn't feel very solid, at least not right next to a DSSD, and then when the cyclops cracked (on the inside?!) and it took 4-5 months to fix?! Bye, bye!
I'd go with the 305 if you can swing the size! |

I like the 305, but as a diver fan first and foremost, the 243 is the real deal. Bonus points if you get a T dial.

243 for me (becoz i much prefer stainless steel over titanium) but 305 or the SE version 371 is just as nice.
btw, 243 production is coming to an end.

I don't mind the titanium 305 because the movement is heavy, makes the watch feel hefty and substantial!
Personally I would go for a 243 t dial, or Pam 25 b t dial Both are just classic and ooze panerais DNA IMO! I tend to like the older Pam's though |
