Latest member to my family

Hi everyone.I never thought I would do this, and have stated that I would not go into in, But I have succumbed to temptation and crossed over to the dark side.....

Just bought this from a dealer.A nicely patina 1680 RED. 3.4 mil serial number.Dating it to approx 71-72.It will go nicely with my matching patina 5513.The 5513 is my first.....the 1680 red is my latest.

With this latest addition, I'm afraid I will have to let go my nice white 1680.I would love to have both, but unfortunately we are not all blessed with deep pockets.

Anyway, hope you all like the pics.Cheers everyone.Peter

Congrats on the Red Sub. The price of those babies has been climbing.
There is, as might be expected, some deterioration of the hands. However, the dial looks to be in excellent condition. You should be able to buy another set of tritium hands and without any corrosion. Hopefully you can find a set of hands that match the dial. However, there is nothing of any great signficance to worry about with the present hands in any event.

That is a beautiful Red Sub!

I love how the hands are starting to oxidize and the color is changing into a patina tone.

Many congrats my friend!! It looks wonderfull!!

Nothing at all wrong with moving your collection upscale. You've not entered the "Dark side" you've entered the "RED zone"!!

Nice score!!!

Quite right Peter, gota think positively and move quickly. Perhaps it's time to trade in a Tudor Sub, not sure though, when it comes to the crunch, could I actually do that to my faithful old friends

I know how you feel.I had a tough time trying to figure out which watch I'm willing to sell with MINIMAL regrets.....Don't we all wish we were born with deeper pockets

Look at it this way, what would you regret more, selling off 1 of your TUDORs, or missing out on one of your dream watches....

Just my humble opinion.Cheers.Peter

Nice Peter. Very very nice.

Did you manage to find that beautiful piece of history in Singapore?

I'm wavering on my initial thoughts of picking up a Blancpain 50 Fathoms. Your post has just reminded me why the Sub is so cool, because it has evolved constantly over time.

Problem these days is the low dollar 1 Euro = 1.4182 U.S. dollars. Buying for you americans and selling for us europeans internationally. And vice versa is good of course.

Yes.Bought this on my sunny island. The blancpain 50 fathoms is every bit as iconic. However, the last red sub I came across was more than 6 months ago, so when this came, I jumped.

Could you recommend where one could go looking for such things in Singapore?

Up here in KL it's a matter of going through flea markets, junk and antique stores, and the odd dealer here and there that would have access to the vintage market, and even then it's not a reliable method of hunting.

Most models in the 2nd hand/vintage market are more recent than Red Sub eras, we're looking at watches made 10 to 15 years old.

There are quite a few freelance dealers here who got very nice watches, but they get sold very quickly as well.Just happened to be my day.
