Need help appraising a Rolex

Hey everybody! I'm obviously very new to the forums and don't really know much about fine watches, but I was looking to possibly getting an appraisal for one of mine. A few years ago, my grandfather passed away and passed down his collection of luxury watches to me. Amongst them, he left me this Rolex Submariner that he won off of a friend in a bet in Aspen. I am currently looking to sell the watch in order to get money towards a car for myself as I am currently off at college and would like a means of transportation. The watch is in working order with very little damage other than a scratch near the center of the crystal. I was wondering if I would be better off selling it as-is or getting the crystal repaired? I also don't have either the original paperwork or the original box it came in. Any advice would be greatly appreciated in helping me.

Here is the photo of the watch if it helps: http://s1236.photobucket.com/albums/...filter=noflash

Best wishes to everybody!
Jack

Here's a photo for everyone to see.

I am suspicious about the watch. First the band does not belong on the watch and the dial has some issues for a ND Sub. I'll let a few others chime in.

Take the band off and take a photo of the serial # and model # located between the lugs (the part that holds the band in place) and post it here.

Crown guards are off to me, also that dial is either a bad refinished one or fake to start with, it's clearly incorrect.

Watch screams out fake from all over the place. Incorrect band for sure and even if it was replaced, why would they replace it with a "jubilee" bracelet unless of course, it's one of those $100 bands you can find anywhere. We definitely need more photos of serial- model #'s

Amazing how many watches get 'inherited' from grandfathers...

THIS! As soon as I read "A few years ago, my grandfather passed away and passed down his collection of luxury watches to me" I didn't have to keep on reading anymore

My daughter better not be on here someday saying "I just inherited a GMT from my father and I was wondering if it was real..."

She should KNOW it's real.

Don't mean to make accusations but I remember this story about a watch almost word-for-word in an eBay auction months ago. The bit about being a college student needing a car and everything.

Maybe the OP screen name is a hint

that this guy is a tool. :) Just kidding! No offense if there is any truth to the story. Somehow I doubt it. You know actually the bracelet may be the most valuable part of the watch. Maybe worth $5.

And yet again, nothing further from the beneficiary type OP...

Maybe there should be a minimum post count required before being able to post in the "watch out" section?

Although they are amusing albeit repetitive ...

My first thought (besides the band) was that a 4 line ND Sub should have white gold outlines on the markers, correct? Did they make any 4 liners without gold framed markers?
