Rolex stopped working
Hi! I hope everybody is doing well and i wish for the success of all your tasks. I have a Rolex Submariner and Daytona. I bought this new from a Rolex dealer in the Philippines about eight years ago. I am residing in Vancouver and when i leave for about six months i put this in a safe deposit box and everytime i come back i put in a watchwinder and start using it.
Last month i got them both back and they were working fine. But this month i've noticed that the Daytona's movement was slow and then it stopped. When i used the Submariner yesterday, it stopped working. Unfortunately, there is no Rolex Service Center here in Vancouver, i may may to bring it back to the Philippines. At this point i'm curious why this happened, i have other Rolex and i never experienced this. Would anybody be able to enlighten me? |

Welcome to the forum.....
You never mentioned if you actually hand wound your watch before placing it back in the winder.?? If not, give your watch/s a full 40 turns of the winding crown and see how things go.

What Rob said. The odds of both being "broken" at the same time is slim and winders do not necessarily wind the mainspring to full reserve.

Thank you for your kind concern and advise. Knowing there are people out there who cares somehow alleviates the burden. I did wind my watch not only a full 40 turn but i doubled it and still its dead. It was working fine until yesterday and ironically this is the first time this happened and on both two watches so i can't help being bothered. My other Rolexes are in the Philippines and having worn a Rolex for decades makes me feel somehow uncomfortable without one. Anyway, as i said i'm happy there are people like you who cares.

Hmmm... 6 months is long enough for the lubricants to settle in areas away from the components needing lubrication. Perhaps the stoppage is temporary. Maybe try a couple of things before taking them to service.
Warming them in the sun or other place and rotating them could circulate the oil inside. Then wind as others have said, then alternatively wear each 8 hours a day and see if they will run as the should.

You're very right, being broken at the same time is slim. And it never happened in all this four decades i've being wearing Rolex. In my experience, they are almost industructible and that what makes me uncomfortable. Many thanks however for your very kind concern.

Take a trip down to Seattle or Portland and have someone take alook at it just to make sure something isn't broken in there and will do any additional damage......good luck.......

That great! We usually cross the border for our groceries. I'll keep this in mind, in the meantime, i'll try 77T's suggestion. Thanks for the concern.

Another option is to pay a visit to either Otto Freidl in Hotel Vancouver, or The German Watchmaker. Both have longstanding reputations, and should be able to help you out.

Think you should take it to a professional and not mess with it yourself!

It is unusual that both watches would stop working.
I will leave it to the experts to diagnose. I wonder if it is a magnetic field or where you keep your watches? |

Thanks, you're right, this is for the experts to diagnose, it will surely cost money, but on one hand i've had this for almost seven years without a problem, so it's time i spend for its maintainance now.

I hope everybody's doing well. Just an update regarding this thread. I got my Submariner from a Rolex technician and the problem was a broken mainspring. When i asked how it happened, i was asked in return "how long i had the watch?" I'm not sure seven years is a long time for a mainspring to break. Anyway, i'm having my Daytona repaired too. Thanks for your concern guys, i appreciate it. Nice to be in a place where there are concerned enthusiasts like you.

Glad to hear you got it all sorted out, and the watch is back up and running.

Thank you for sharing my gladness over this matter. When you love a Rolex, it's hard for somebody to understand what seems to be the emptiness. I am glad there are enthusiast like you who can identify with me.
