The surge in demand for the 42 mm Explorer II is real. I've talked to several ADs and it is really starting to,take off. I was told that Rolex promoted the heck out of the white dial version and there has been a surge in demand for the black dial.. There are less of the black dial I was old in production.

The gmt2c is a beautiful watch for sure, but after wearing a panerai for the last 8 years as my daily wearer my wife bought me the new explorer I'm. The GMT just felt too small.

I have both the GMTIIc and the previous smaller version of the ExpII. I recently went to my local AD to compare the new ExpII against my smaller version. I ended up liking my older one better because it's lighter and sits lower on the wrist, not to mention the new one costing double the price of what I got mine for. The new watch is certainly a chunk of metal with a serious wrist presence but the maxi-dial didn't appeal to me (kind of comic book style hands, I mean look at the size of the minute hand!).

Comparing the ExpII versus the GMTIIc, they serve different purposes for me. I wear the ExpII on weekends and/or when doing things like working out, playing golf, etc. It's a more steathly watch because of the size and lighter weight. I wear the GMTIIc during the week at my desk job - more like a dress watch. I'm sure some of this has to do with the significant cost difference between them and my desire to preserve the GMTIIc in a more pristine state.
