What do you think about this Red Submariner?

The jeweler where I always buy my watches offered me today this 1680 Red Submariner (sorry for the crappy Blackberry pictures):

We took the newer 93150 bracelet off (which feels pretty solid) to see the serial number and it's a 3.7 million, not sure if the dial is a Mark IV or Mark V.

It looks and feels great, and the price is kinda tempting at $8,000 with a faded insert and no box or papers.

What do you think? Do you see anything wrong with it?

Please, do chip in.

Dial is a Mk V "semi-open" 6 dial that would be correct for the serial number. Dial appears to be in excellent condition without chips in hash marks or peeling, and lume appears to be intact. If there are no issues with the case, I would say 8k is very fair.

nice piece! 8k seems fair. 7.5k sounds better though! Good luck!

X2 however, I see a huge gash on the crystal which is no big deal for me. Also, insert is not fat font, but again price is reasonable.

As said already, this is a 'mid font' insert, no biggie and quite a common replacement on many older Subs. At least it looks a little aged and has a nice pearl. Dial & hands look good and case looks nice with good crown guards. If it all checks out when they whip the case back off and the bracelet is useable, then I'd say 8K is very good, and I'd rip their arm off before somebody else grabs it.

You make a good deal because you take it for a rezonable price.

Looks like a nice Mark V. Just check the hands match the colour of the lume dots as difficult to see from the photos. Also 3.7m is a little late for a Mark V. I would probably expect it to be 3.2 - 3.5 but there is some crossover so probably nothing to worry about.

But good value at $8k even for a loose watch.

looks nice, great looking FF insert too...

the 93150 shouldn't play too much of a role. you can find a new bracelet for little money..

Even better..... now it all ties up. Does the colour of the lume on the hands match the hour dots...... If so, you have a steal at anywhere near $8k IMO.

Nothing glaring jumps out. It'd be nice to see side and back views of the case and caseback. Lugs appear good, but more angles are needed to confirm.

More crappy Blackberry pictures (sorry, I miss my iPhone!)...

I went in to look at it again and take some more pictures:

Any new insights from these pictures?

I'm leaning towards trading the Milgauss and adding some cash, never liked the PCL's... I don't wear it much and I can buy something dressier like it in the future, but I'm starting to think that it won't be easy to find another 1680 like this.

Forgot to take a picture of the faded insert, it's still has the tritium pearl on it, if I get it that's the one I will use. I'll also get a new replace the plastic crystal, it's got a nasty scratch @ 12. I believe the hands were replaced since they are a tad lighter than the plots...

Try using Polywatch to get rid of the scratch first because a super dome crystal can cost a lot. You should definitely buy this watch for 8K that's a good deal.

Looks like a nice vintage Submariner. That serial number places it close to the end of production for the red Subs. Good luck in your decision.

Looks to be very nice.

The hands look to have been replaced at some point, but you can find some tritium replacements no problem to match that lume.
Cost will be around $300-$350.

Nothing wrong with that piece, and the price is fair as well. I would trade my Milgauss and cash for sure if it was me.

If not, I'm sure a few people here will be lined up to buy it.
