Sounds like you might be repenting --- or trying to salvage your marriage? your wife must definitely understand your true nature to a great extent. But if you are taking your savings and buying watches with it, while you promised your wife that it is for a house's downpayment, then you are in trouble......There is a time for everything. When the time is right and you have the $$ you buy a house. Sounds to me you are making a rush decision to buy a house -- even though it is the greatest rsuh decision you can make --- I do sense some sense of urgency....

Priorities for most of us will be family, health and education. I am glad that you got the priorities right and there is no need to be sad.

It is just a watch and you can get a day date anytime in the future

Mark, I have not receive the watch yet but after reading this thread....I'm going to feel bad for buying it from you.

Family is indeed are much more important. I applaud for what you are doing. Watches comes and go......family doesn't. I'm sure you will find another grail watch soon.......

Thanks Mark.

If you have 9 other Rolex watches, you did the right thing. If it was your only one, it would be tough but you'll be able to pick up the same model again.

I totally get it. A few months ago I needed some cash quick but my wife actually stopped me from selling my watch as she knows it means a lot to me. Glad she did, too.

Keep your eye on the prize, a house and great life with your new wife. I am sure you'll get back into a YG DD or other Rolex in the future. You have a lot of years ahead of you both.

I bought my grail watch before I got married 4 years ago. Now it is in the process of being sold. Selling to a fellow Forum member so it will go to a good home for sure.

But I bought this watch new from an AD with the intention to keep it forever. Even special ordered it from Rolex directly.

But looking at buying a house and raising $ for a down payment. I could have sold some investments to obtain $ for a down, but in many ways I wanted to show my wife that I value "us" and the family more than I do my watches. It is a gesture to show her that our future is more important than anything else.

Need to sell out townhouse too, but that is a different post altogether.

So boxed up this watch last night. And was a liitle sad to think about letting this go. But at the same time I am keeping my eyes on the goal of a house.

So it it silly to be sad about this?

It's understandable that you are feeling sad about the sale of such a precious piece from your collection but it could be worse like ( buying something that cannot be sold for money ). We are all lucky that the watches we like are worth much of its value in times of need.

Saddness is temporary, the next DayDate you get will outshine this one with double the happiness while sharing with your family in your new house

You can always get one later down the road when it makes sense. Nice piece, by the way.

I have 100 percent faith you will have a new grail some day soon, and that one you will be your life long keeper...

Life is funny like that, you never know where your next bone is coming from - at least that was my yorkies wisdom.

clearly there is an emotional attachment to this watch. so i dont think that its "silly" to feel sad. but the gesture that youre doing speaks volumes! look at it this way, you will be able to create so many awesome new memories with your wife and family in this new house and that would have stemmed from selling this watch. so its a win win if you ask me.

congrats to the two of you on the new home and I wish you guys a life time of happiness.

I'm excited about a future and a bigger place, that is for sure.

One thing that I do feel GREAT about is that Paul is getting this watch. From dealing with him, I am very content in knowing it will be enjoyed!

Could not have asked for more.
