Another RSC "Service" question?
I'm getting frustrated here. My AD (JE Caldwell) sent my new "K" series DD to RSC for a dial change. He told me that anytime they open the watch to change dials, they automatically perform a "Service".
So I call RSC New York this afternoon to double check on the agend for my watch. They tell me that it was sent to them for a dial and Day/Date wheel change. I asked her if it would be serviced and she said no...that was not specified. They will only be replacing the face and DD wheels. What gives...2 different answers from 2 different people...the story of my life. Why can't I get a strait answer? |

Well, see....The AD might not know as much as he thinks....
A "K" would certainly be due for a service, but if one has been performed within the past couple of years I think it highly unlikely they would do it "just for kicks". |

I though that RSC or any watch servicing company would do a full service on a watch any time they opened it up. I have heard instances where people sent recent/new series watches in for warranty work and Rolex fixed the problem and performed a full service including pressure/water proof testing.

I think you can rest assured that an RSC would not 'open' a watch, do a dial swap and then close it up again if there were any other discovered issues. An RSC doesn't want a bounceback watch that magically reappears with new issues after they've put their gloved hands on it.
The consensus is that an RSC will decline to work on a watch if they're not confident that when it's finished, it will perform up to snuff. Without being critical, I'm somewhat surprised at what seems like an uptick in postings here that start with 'I took my Rolex to an AD and they sent it to the RSC and now I don't know what to think...'. It seems awfully easy to me to pack and ship my own watch to an RSC and deal directly with them. I suppose for those who trust the AD and just want the simple route to a reworked Rolex, letting the AD do the pack & ship is easier, but then why question the proposed outcome? Oh well, nobody died and made me king so that I could tell people how to run their watch lives... |

Quote:
1. New Dial (Lt Champaign Dia 8+2) 2. Replace white DD wheels to match color of new face 3. Complete Service (Sat in safe for 4-5 yrs) This is why the AD is handeling things. RSC confirmed 1 & 2...but said that JE Caldwell didn't ask for an estimate for service. The AD assumes that they will automatically do it because they will be taking it apart AND its under warranty. Maybe RSC is confused because its a "K" series and din't realize it was just sold "NEW"...2 yr factory warranty and all. I will try to clear things up tomorrow. |
